HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #90: 2024-2025 season part III

Montreal should give a call to Vegas and see if they can get Whitecloud out of there. He's a defensive RHD who I think would fit well with Hutson.

Baring that, I would try for Korczak. A younger, big RHD.

Vegas top 4 is all signed long-term, even Whitecloud still has 3 years left on his contract, which means there's no room for Korczak.

Vegas either has to move Whitecloud (for cap space), or they move Korczak for roster reasons.

Montreal has the assets to do this type of move.
Yes Korczak is a great skater and is not getting any ice time in Vegas there D is to deep.....he has also played For Canada at U17 and U18 and U20.

I don’t think we should be getting a 2C stopgap, now is the time to capitalize on our assets. I would start with our 1st rounder for Cozens and see what it takes.
That is crazy overpayment for somebody who is aiming at 41pts season, signed for 5 more years at 7.1M. I would prefer to go with 2 years of Mittelstadt.

Kent’s logic for trying to acquire Cozens is that Newhook looked bad on a good team, Dach looked bad on a bad team and both have failed. Now it’s time to go after someone that’s looked both good and bad on a mediocre team.

The math adds up.

It's not even a rumor... Friedman just passing his own opinion as such, the usual.

“I think we’re all focused on the Canadiens’ rental players, but I think they’re very interested in doing hockey trades. I think the Canadiens would like to add an impact player, but it obviously wouldn’t be in exchange for a draft pick, it’s probably by taking something valuable either from their prospect pool – not Demidov or anything like that – or from their roster.

At this time of year, the focus is more on Evans, Armia and Savard, because those are guys who are out of contract next year. But I think the Canadiens are looking at something bigger. It might not happen, but I think they’re definitely interested in bigger hockey deals that they think can make them better if they find a trade partner.” - Elliotte Friedman

Dach doesn’t look like a centre to me, move him to the wing.

If Evans wants a payday, trade him while his value is high.

Trade Armia and Dvo. Package some picks for another higher 1st rounder to offset the one lost from acquiring Cozens
Not sure Cozens is a long term solution at C for the Habs? In fact Mittlestadt has trended better, or more consistently, anyhow, than Cozens so far at C.

I'm also not sure we could acquire Mittlestadt for as little as Evans + Armia + 3rd rounder in 2025. After all, he is currently their 2C on the depth chart and would need to be replaced for this season, at least.

Mittlestadt at 5.75M, assuming it is possible to acquire him, is not a bad stop gap solution at 2C, IMO. If it doesn't work out gangbusters, you can always re-sign him as a 3C after two more years when his contract is up and he is still only 28.

He thinks... The usual. At this point, I trust the Fourth Period more than Elliotte Friedman, who does the exact same Liar Liar act every TDL and every break.

Him and Dreger still having a job is a f***ing wonder.

Pretty much what I've been saying, HuGo will be looking more at hockey trades rather than simply sell for draft picks. And in those types of trades, it would take more than just those who will be UFA's. It'll include either a current roster player who might have some years left on their deal or a prospect or two.

If it's something bigger, it might involve Slafkovsky or one of the other players marked as part of the core. This team needs a shakeup based on how fast they collapsed from such an entertaining run. A move to shore up the second-line center position is on my wish list, and I keep my fingers crossed that it will happen.

Love it. Habs don't need better middling players. They need better players then the ones we currently have to elevate them and the rest of the team.

this team needs a big trade.
no more stop gaps
I see this happening at the draft not now
I wonder if they'll be able to use Matheson as a piece in such a trade or if they will be able to trade him if a 1st is offered, and then have that 1st a trade chip...

I definitely think management would be willing to trade our 1st in the upcoming draft. Then we have to hope the Calgary 1st is between 11th and 14th.

And we two pieces: a 2c and a first pair RD.

time to move the needle
I think we would all love to see a trade that shakes the team, and makes it better going forward, asap........the playoffs look like they are in the rear view window now, but next year is huge for this group.

Who........do we move of significance? Elliot F is saying the habs are willing to deal.......

Right. But you aren't getting those types of players without giving up top prospects, which they've already said they won't do.
Then they' ll be spinning their wheels forever,i like the vegas approach but we just don't have the balls.again one month of meaningful hockey in three years and were right back to having ZERO identity,i don't like the idea of HOPING Marty develops into a real coach, ive seen enough.

Is Slaf available to trade for a 2C or top 4 RHD?
