I disagree that he's not a 3C league-wide, he'd be a 3C on a lot of the teams currently holding a playoff spot in the NHL.
And more than 4M AAV where the cap is going, is not a lot of money for a 3C.
We have to stop thinking of salary/cap hits, with how it was under a flat cap.
I agree that 4M AAV is indeed very OK for 3C (in a 100M cap world, allocating 10-15M for the entire third line seems appropriate) but I doubt Evans would be in the right chair on a contending team at that position.
He’s currently in his best season by a wide margin and he’s nevertheless 99th in points amongst listed C league-wide; so basically an elite 4C on a contending roster.
