If that Flames pick is between 11 and 14, we could do a lot with it, especially if we use other assets to move up.We don't need more picks. We have a shitload of prospects. Unless we get an other top-15, we need guys who can play now or soon.
Team Canada being in the Habs installation could be a good news to attract new players. We know how top notch they are
Exactly! That’s what the picks are for…
Go read my post again. I didn't say all the players on the list were better than Suzuki. I specifically said 8 were probably better. What's your point? It was your list and any player can be traded as 5 of the names on your list of "better than Suzuki" were. It's not even to say there are other "better" or equivalent centers in the league that can be had that you didn't put on your list.
Point is players get moved all the time and there's no reason Habs can't get one of the premier centers available to get a material upgrade up front that the desperately need.
Bennett is a better version of Bolland but same problem at the end of the dayHe’s never hit 50 points in a season and the only time he’s played 82 games was back in 2017-18. His body won’t hold up well. On top of that, he’s shit at faceoffs.
I like the player, but it’s going to take an overpayment and he’s not good enough to warrant one.
Suzuki is better when he has something concrete to play for. I'm amazed people call his recent slow down a slump when in reality it's his understanding his season is bust. Every time Suzuki has had something to prove he's taken it head on. It started with the talk about 4 Nations and the Olympics coming out of the All Star break last season he followed it up with his play after being left off the roster this season.Suzuki is actually even better in the playoffs.
If you think about it based on everything we know about Jake Evans and his overall play as a Hab is his salary now worth double what he has been getting paid? Jake Evans will revert to being who he always was a bottom six player worth around what he is actually getting paid with a modest increase and then Cap adjusted. 3M seems like it's where he should be pegged at and as far as term goes 5 years seems max. You could probably play around with the numbers and give him a top heavy deal to make it easier to move him down the road but even this is high IMO. He will likely get more on the open market but then again that is why he likely gets moved.Wow. 5 million for evans. Good for him if he gets anything over 4.
It's a f***ing Joke.5m to Evans since that’s the new 3m
7m to Dach when he renews since that’s the new 5m
9m to Matheson since that’s the new 7m
We can’t forget 5m to Armia to reward his good play can we?
How exactly is Laine a good trade chip lolIf that Flames pick is between 11 and 14, we could do a lot with it, especially if we use other assets to move up.
We have some good trade chips:
- our 1st
- Calgary 1st
- two 2nds
- Matheson
- Savard
- Laine
- Dach
- Evans + Armia package
- Struble, Engstrom, Bogdan, Mailloux
Is that enough to get a 2c and a top pair RD to replace Matheson? Can't hurt to add another 1st if see an opportunity.
We shouldn't be trading Evans for picks.I'm guessing the return for Evans is around a 2nd round pick.
I think the Calgary pick will be moved in a package for a 2C.
If we can't reach a deal on an extension and can't get a player in return.....why not?We shouldn't be trading Evans for picks.
HuGo is creative enough to use those picks in a separate trade. Hughes has already done it with Romanov tradeWe shouldn't be trading Evans for picks.

Not at this moment...How exactly is Laine a good trade chip lol
Dach hasn't really panned out.HuGo is creative enough to use those picks in a separate trade. Hughes has already done it with Romanov trade
You're missing the point. VAN and WSH has done this before: get a pick and flip it soon after.Dach hasn't really panned out.
There could be a Weise + Fleischmann for young Danault + a 2nd deal out there for Evans and Armia. They are a top pk duo in the league this year. But those deals are rare.HuGo is creative enough to use those picks in a separate trade. Hughes has already done it with Romanov trade
The model to follow is TampaExactly!
Hughes recently talked about picks being deferred to later drafts which is also a great idea because you need a war chest of picks when it's your turn to go after a rental. I could see Hughes actually trying to swap out some of our upcoming later picks for equivalent ones in later draft years. You could actually find great value doing that if you identify teams that are slipping...
Trying to figure out what he could possibly do with his assets requires imagination on our part they look at everything.
I like what Vegas and Florida did trading away mid 1sts and ok prospects, or sometimes more or sometimes less, for the likes of Eichel, Stone, Pietrangelo, Tkachuk, Reinhart, Bennett, Forsling, Bobrovsky, etc...The model to follow is Tampa
First you build a foundation of talent
Then you add the Colemans and Goodrows
You mean this list of centers you said to pick from that were better than Suzuki?Go read my post again. I didn't say all the players on the list were better than Suzuki. I specifically said 8 were probably better.
I'll make this simple for you. You're the one who wanted to trade for a #1 center and move Suzuki to #2. Give us your list. You'll find aside from the top 6-7-8 you'll run dry. And then tell us what those players will cost us.
The reason I'm pressuring you is because implicit in your post is the belief that Suzuki is not a #1 center who can lead this team to a cup win.
Suzuki is a first line center. You want a player that can displace Suzuki. Okay. Pick him from this list:
MaxKinnon
Draisaitl
Mc David
Eichel
Hughes
Necas
Scheifle
Reinhart
Point
Crosby
Stutzle
Duchene
Aho
Strome
Barkov
How many on that list have the offensive and defensive mojo to move Suzuki to second fiddle? The first six names plus Barkov and Crosby maybe. The rest you're flipping a coin. And now tell me if any of those teams will trade those 8 players. Realistically, the answer is nope. And if they are willing we can't match what they'll want.
So Hugo is looking for a second line center.
