I wouldn’t take him for free at 6.4m. I don’t think the Oilers can take the risk of that contract.

So this Gibson rumour I heard from this guy on Saturday. He said Gibson and Edmonton chatter has started to heat up after Friday. The team hasn’t just become worried about Skinners play during the Friday game. They’ve been a bit nervous all year. They don’t think Skinner is a bad goalie but they are starting to get a feeling that he may not be the goalie they need for a Cup.

His source is a scout he knows out of the West (Oilers scout).

That day and today he told me he’s 70% sure Gibson will be an Oiler. We may be waiting on a better (filling more than one spot) before they pull the trigger. He’s fairly confident that we will get him.

But again, take this with a grain of salt

I mean I talked to people last year and called the rico deal, I reached out to the same regarding Gibson and they didn't know anything.

If Gibson remains a Duck then I wouldn't listen to this guy. If Gibson gets traded here, then props.

Hahaha what were you expecting? Reason I decided to tell you guys about this rumour is because, firstly, he told me about it Saturday and, secondly, he called the Rico trade last year. Usually he never brings up names of players unless he’s got some weight behind the rumour

There does seem to be more than a bit of smoke, so I could see your source being right

The biggest thing I think is if 1) they convince Gibson to ride 1A/1B with Skinner (rather than being handed the reigns completely), and if not 2) where would Skinner go if Gibson wants to be the bonafide starter?

That could end up stalling / killing any potential deal too

Assuming the Oilers actually want to upgrade their goaltending.

Probably depends if Edmonton prefers to keep Skinner or Pickard

Then depends if Anaheim is interested in Skinner if Edmonton wants to move him over Pickard

Probably depends too if theres a D or F that they would rather use Skinners cap on

Just based on the way the media acts, I would be surprised if the Oilers actually move Skinner. But I guess we will see if theres more smoke as we go.

I wanted something out of the ballpark borderline sensationalism with a fictional twist. I'll settle with a possible Gibson trade.

He can ask for 3 firsts, doesn’t mean a team will pay it. Gibson has a full NMC and controls his destiny. If there’s only 1 or 2 teams that want him then there really isn’t much of a bidding war for him. I guess he’s just going to have to remain a Duck for 2 more years because no one’s going to pay a premium for a goalie that has been that bad for the past 4 years.
