HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #90: 2024-2025 season part III

This is a random AF idea and I know BUF fans have soured on Samuelson. I wonder if Hughes could do a Matheson/Hornqvist esque trade:
Anderson for Samuelson

Would you guys make that gamble?

My guess is they are far apart on term. I wouldn’t be surprised if Evans is looking for 5+ year contract. Hughes stayed away from some of the UFA’s in the offseason due to the length of contracts handed out.

Good point.

Hughes has the right idea with the reclamation projects.

Newhook and Laine came for cheap.

Dach, if he doesn't work out, it's because of a freak injury.

I agree we're already challenged at center.

Dach isn't really a center. Dvorak is gone. So if Evans is gone, Hughes needs a plan to bring two centers in, assuming Beck is good to start next season at center.
Realistic to think Beck and Kapanen will be in the lineup next year as centers. If not, they can get a 4th line center and move Kap to the wing in the interim.

The real question and the best thing Habs can do with all their cash, picks and prospects is not get a 2nd liners center but try and get a 1st line center.

If Suzuki is your second line center and you’re bringing in Demidov, that’s a massive improvement to your forward group. Add a no. 1 RHD and I think you have a contender level team.

Demi No.1 Laine(contract year)
Cole Suzuki Slaf
Newhook Beck Anderson
Heineman Kapanen Gally

Hutson RHD
Guhle Carrier
Xhekaj Mailloux

Dach, Matheson, picks and prospects as trade capital.

Don’t think injury prone Dach, Matheson pick and the kind of prospect available we have for trading get you a #1C. We would need to add something that hurt. Like a Reinbacher or a Caufield.

Sure. Along with 1sts, 2nds etc. Happy to add Reinbacher if it lands a top RHD now and center.

That is horrendous C depth and we will be bottom 5 with that lineup.

Not sure if it's the right time in the rebuild to do this move

but maybe trying to acquire Bennett in the off-season could be a nice move if he doesn't sign with the panthers? giving some stability to Demidov and even Slaf with a veteran presence.

Giving a guy who scores 40-50 points/season while playing on a contender a 7x7 contract just screams disaster.

The best fit, providing mutual interest would be Matt Duchene.

You get a guy that will fill the 2C position until Hage and/or our 2025 pick is ready to take it.
I think at his age Duchene will go championship hunting. Unless we massively overpay for 4-5 years I don’t see him signing with a rebuilding team, but you never know.

Beck can fill in for Evans. I'm curious what the gap is in cost. I bet Evans is asking for 4 mill and we are offering 2.5 mill. Evans is a solid PK player and can contribute on the scoresheet, but he's a dime a dozen. Time to move on if the price isn't right. Win or lose, Evans doesn't move the needle.

No, Beck can’t. Maybe in three years, but not next year. Evans >>> Beck

I'd sign Bennett to 7M X 7 years. It's an overpayment, I believe, but that pivot is a legitimate 2nd line C with two-way skills and able to stabilize the top-9.

Play Dach on the wing with Caufield and Suzuki. It provided good results in the past and a second line of Slafkovsky - Bennett - Demidovcould turn out pretty good.

A third line of Heineman - Beck - Laine could also be gangbusters.

I think there's better players out there at what Evans is probably asking for if Hughes won't sign him. the year is over, beck can step in this year, and maybe we sign a guy as a stop gap or keep Dvorak, or Beck impresses and can play 15 minutes a night. Evans doesn't move the needle.
