No offer sheets. No need. There are other avenues.

Agreed. It's a bit risky too because we have several expiring contracts for vets that probably is replaced with more youth and that might mean a setback next year. I prefer our team to move up (we all do) but if there are set backs (it's a possibility), we would be trading several 1st rounders without protection. This team is not in the position to do offer sheets. That is for teams who are in legit playoff spots and their picks are high chance at back of the bus

Dobson is a good solution for us, but he's not this physical stud in the D zone. He's making just as many mistakes as Matheson with high usage. Dobson stands to improve as a younger player but this thought process that he automatically is an upgrade over Matheson is a future upgrade when Dobson is in the heart of his prime.

Nemec is a better target IMO. He has a more well rounded 2 way game. I like his defensive ability more and that's what we need. A Guhle type on the right side.

Me neither and for as much as I like Dobson's offensive ability, he needs to improve in the D zone a lot! Many Habs fans don't realize that. Matheson vs Dobson in the D zone is similar.

Nemec is a better target. Better at both ends IMO
Dobson is better then Nemec offensively

And yes Dobson can make the same type of mistake that Matheson does defensively but I prefer by far Dobson hockey IQ then Matheson

It’s becoming clear Dach is not gonna be our 2C. I’d be disappointed if Hugo wasn’t kicking tires on Cozens and other Cs

He also plays the right side, which is where we are thin.
A series of trade/offer sheets that would see Matheson traded and Dobson signed would really fix a few problems.

Guhle/Dobson
Hutson/Reinbacher
Xhekaj/Carrier

This looks like more natural pairings...

True. But that's why @Deebs mentioned it's for shits and giggles.

To be fair about Gallant, that was on Laraque and his friend who said he spotted him in a coffee shop with Habs brass.
Laraque at it again (not sure if this was posted already):

And have an unhappy vet in the AHL? Not sure i like that. What's the point?

The point would be that they would be extending Armia for 1 year based on his play this year, which is completely warranted. If he declined and was not usable for another year, he would go back to the AHL and he was there before and was, by all accounts, a very good person down there and didn't pout.

But with only one year on his contract, he would be moveable to another team, vs last time where his salary and term were prohibitive.

Armia can sign a cheaper (than 3.4M actually) but long enough 3-yr deal as we let Dvorak go (not sure there is an actual trading partner out there) and trade Evans for a late first round pick.

We are stuck with Gallagher and Anderson's contracts, I think and the problem is more Newhook and each, both of Hughes' acquired projects that aren't getting off the ground running.

I'd be more interested in replacing Dach as a 2C and flipping both he and Newhook somewhere else. Armia staying as a depth piece on a cheaper contract forum to three years (not more), I'd be fine with.

Gallgher might end up being a rather expensive 13th forward within the next two seasons, but that shouldn't prevent a deserving rookie to earn ice time, IMO.

Caufield - Suzuki - Laine
Slafkovsky - Acquired 2C - Demidov
Heineman - Beck - Armia
XXX - XXX - Anderson
Gallagher

Personal feeling is that Armia is gone one way of the other. He's either traded or he'll walk as a UFA. I'm sure a team will be willing to give him that insane contract and he may be able to join a contender team. I would never have guess that he could raised from his ashes, but he manage to carve a role for himself and he's good in that role.

Trading Dach to get another C is not a solution. I see Dach as part of the solution, not the problem. Whether he find a spot of the 2nd line or 3rd line, he can bring size, speed and physical play. Lack of depth and skill is forcing MSL to play him in a role that may not optimize his skill set.

I'm getting less optimistic with Laine long term role with this team. In fact, i'm wondering what he could return if traded this summer half-cap retain. I'm still wondering if his knee is ok. he's not in shape that is for sure and he's not the most intense guy out there, but this level of play strikes me as lower then what he usually bring. Regardless, while he's a big guy, he's rarely physical, his shot on PP1 can be replace by CC. So I see him as replaceable.

As far as a 2C, he needs to be LH. Cant go with 4 RH C. At this point Newhook is a trade chip for me. Wont return much, but he's not a needed piece.

With a traded Laine, I see this

CC - Suzuki - Demidov
Dach - LH/2C - Slaf
Heineman - Evans - Anderson
Kapanen - Beck - XXX
Gally

With Laine still there.

CC - Suzuki - Slaf
Laine - LH/2C - Demidov
Dach - Evans - Heineman
Kapanen - Beck - Anderson
Gally

According to information reported by the site RG.org, Buffalo would be looking to obtain a center player with comparable potential as well as a right-handed defenseman or a young prospect.

Dach and Mailloux is the best offer we can do and I'd be asking the Sabres to add their 2026 2nd. Dach is not that far behind Cozens and Mailloux is a B+ guy at RD.

That would be my wildest guess if the Habs and Sabres pull off a trade:
* Dach and Mailloux
for
* Cozens and 2026 2nd

Before March 7, Kent Hughes would be interested in making a trade that he would make in June. If the Canadiens add [a player] to their roster in a major way or at least something semi-significant, that's something we would be comfortable doing for the following seasons." - Pierre LeBrun
The Canadiens management never got lost in the ups and downs of this year, we really kept our [long-term] vision. The only thing is that short-term wins and losses still have an impact on the Joel Armia, Jake Evans, David Savard and Christian Dvorak files. It's sure that it can have an impact on these players before March 7." - Pierre LeBrun

Pass. Not giving up Mailloux to add ~4m more to our cap and pray that Cozens can do better than 10 more points a season than Dach at his worst.

The good for Dylan Cozens:

He's now up to 50% on the draw and has taken 790 faceoffs, 100 more than anyone else on the Sabres. He would be 3rd on the team, .1% higher than Suzuki.

He averages over 2 hits per game, big boi too at 6'3

Good skater

Can PK

Wicked wrist shot.

The bad

He's on pace for yet another sub 20 goal season.

On pace for another sub 50 point season

Takes a caphit of 7.1 AND costs assets to acquire.

Even if you fast forward to where the cap might get 114 per year you want a gut to get at least 20g and 50 points if you're paying them 7 mill.

He's also the 2nd most used forward on Buffalo, not like he isn't getting that much ice time and if he got more would produce like he did 2 years ago.
