HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #89: 2024-2025 season part II

What a terrible deal Flyers made today. They sent both Frost & Farabee to Calgary for Kuzmenko (UFA), Pelletier (waiver wire prospect), a 2nd & a 7th.

Flames get stronger. Flyers definitely tanking.
Brutal... I wanted both Frost & Farabee, and that return is considerably less than I'd have paid.

What is Briere doing? Kuz & Pelletier with Torts

Terrible asset management for the flyers. Guess the silver lining is that they will keep tailspining as we start our ascent.

That seems to be the general consensus around these boards. Calgary made off like bandits. I figured Flames wouldn't mess with their chemistry unless it was a steal.

Hughes was sleeping on this one. Farabee is guy I wanted last summer. Only 24 with couple 20+ goal seasons. Probably Dvorak and a throw in?

I guess you are hard core tanklogist. Goes against what Gorton and Hughes been preaching doesn't it?

If a deal like Farabee and Frost fell in your lap would you pass?
Yes, that's 7 mill cap for a player getting a raise soon and another not deserving it.

Gorton and Hughes said they were going to stay the course and aren't being buyers unless it makes sense.

A reasonable outcome.

The Habs will not be able to replace both of Evans and Dvorak next year.

I would love to know what teams offer for Evans. Adding another 1st gets us a serious asset to use and there is no doubt in my mind that more players become available in trades near the draft... that we don't have on the radar now.

Dvorak back for one more year on a value contract is not a horrible idea. Stability is important and that Anderson / Dvorak / Gallagher line is underrated.

Evans has quieted down recently and it's time to make some trades.

Let's revisit the Evans + for Nemec swap.

Armia, Savard and Dvorak all need to go as well. We don't need any more picks in 2025 -- so look to the future of 2026 and 2027 picks.

At draft package whatever we can to either move up or bring in more young talent, all while knowing we have picks in 26 and 27 stacking up.

2025/26 opening night roster

Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
Laine - Dach - Demidov
Heinemen - Newhook - UFA/trade acquisition
Anderson - Beck - Gally

Hutson - Matheson
Guhle - Nemec
Xhekaj - Carrier

Monty
Dobes

Trade Matheson by TDL and bring up Reinbacher.

We really need Anderson and Gally to drop off as well.

If Evans gets moved out, I don't bother keeping Dvorak for next season. Moving on further from the bad part of the Bergevin era (panic acquisition we overpaid for once the offer for KK wasn't matched) would be more beneficial, IMO, regardless of how honest Dvorak's play may have been this season (definitely nothing more than structural, at best)

There,s two years left on Newhook's contract at a 2.9M Cap hit per season. I'm admittedly not a fan of Newhook, but that term and that Cap hit are perfect for Newhook being used as a stop gap C on a 3rd line.

Besides, although he sucks in the F/O circle and defensively, Newhook is a better player, offensively, when he has more room on the ice as a C to exploit his speed.

Beck is suited to play a 4th line role at C because of his F/O skills, his speed and his hockey sense, even if that doesn't exploit his offensive upside as much as would playing the 3rd line C position.

Kapanen is better suited for 3C duties because of the clear offensive upside from his play in Europe this season, but, as a 6'2" C with some weight on his frame -- and the possibility to add some more -- to go along with his hockey sense and defensive awareness, he could convert himself for shutdown duties on a 4th line.

If Carbonneau, a once 60 and 70 goal scorer in Juniors could use his sense of anticipation to become a Selke level forward, another more offensive C could od as such with the right motivation.

I personally don't care about the Bergevin narrative. Dvorak on a value contract for one year is not a bad idea.

Newhook should be used as a puck possession winger helping a center like Beck or Kapanen. Newhook full time at center has been tried by the Avs and the Habs also tried it here and there. It's not a good full time plan IMO. He is not a true type center and trying it would be trying to force a square peg in a round hole.

Beck or Kapanen are not ready for 3C duties. Not if we want to move up into the playoffs next year. We need options to buy time to evaluate them further. I like them just as much as other Habs fans but no way I am doing any penciling them in spots before they earn it.

Hage is the one I really like but he's 2/3+ years away

Heineken is missing.

Yup

So do we have room to bring back Armia? Probably not. Or are we going to play both Kapanen and Beck in the AHL next year?

I think there is going to be a trade and not sure who we trade to be honest. What is Gorton/Hughes really thinking about Gallagher? I'd love to know

Evans, Habs 1st (protected), and a prospect is a fair offer for the Devils and it does fit their needs. They get a player like Evans for their run with a chance at extending while they get a pick from 10-15 range and a prospect.

Not sure where Nemec tops out at but I do think he will be a top 4D. He's got a well rounded game IMO.

The problem is "what makes sense" replies will vary with us fans.

Habs need make big trade like this, save the season

Well, I think we are open to it but we don't need to do it. Stay the course and we are right on track. This team has basically caught the Wings and Sens and passed the Sabres. Those teams have been rebuilding longer than us.

I vote no to any panic moves. Not saying you are proposing panic moves either. Trades are about opportunity (like the Laine and Monahan trades). They come out of nowhere sometimes. Lets be patient and act on the right opportunity.

Strange deal for the Flyers. Yeah, Pelletier is a decent young player but this smells like unloading salary and tanking for sure!

Flames pick will be 15-20 range now! Book it.

Bob M said there are two waives... A little drop around 8 and then another around 15.

Josh Norris continuing yo be strong. Great on the dot, physical, good size. Shoulder looks to be holding up.

Have to imagine he's not on the trade market anymore and if he is it's for an upgrade, not a downgrade.
