My logic is that we need a center who shoot left. So it's either him, either Newhook moved to center (not a bad idea to be honest, he was effective there last year, but he's not that good in faceoffs), or either we sign/trade for someone.

Plus he seems well liked in the room. May contribute more to the vibes than we believe. Just a hunch...

No doubt about it. Evans is well respected in the room and both Evans and the Habs don't want a divorce.

I'm not a fan of Newhook at center. I like his ability to improve but he's just not a center. He's a winger that can play center if required (injuries). My strategy would be option B for Newhook at center (not option A).

I'm the leading apostle of the Church of Left-Handed Centers. Our core belief is that if the habs ever come to not have at least one left-handed center in their lineup, untold calamities would fall. Real shit.

Maybe we could ask Evans if he can play as a lefty. Maybe he's ambidextrous and he just never said it because nobody ever asked.

Maybe he doesn't know himself. He could try it for a few games, see if it sticks? Do it for the team?

Hey I'm just suggesting solutions here.

Being ambidextrous for hockey is hard.

I can switch for goalie, or swinging a club for golf, or a bat in baseball no problem and that's rarely doing anything to work on that. Trying it to shoot is hard. My stick handling takes a a significant drop, as does my shot.

And yes, I'm aware the comment was in jest... i think.🤣

Habs need like a rare player. Like Matthews, someone who is a centre and can shoot.

2nd, Dach and Roy should be enough.....

But seriously, a left handed centre is probably key to acquire.

I think Dvo doesn't get us much of a return. A 3rd or 4th round pick for me we might as well keep him to the end of the season.

If we can't sign Evans and he can get us a late 1st then trade him and Newhook can play there the rest of the season. Figure 3C out off season.

Dach has 30 games to show he can be our 2C. If he can't then we have to look for a legit 2C in the off season, we aren't in full rebuild anymore.

Jody Shelley was on Kyper yesterday, said Montreal interested in Olivier. Colombus trying to sign him first.
I mean home boy, but about 25 other teams interested in him. If he gets to UFA, sure Habs will be in on him.
If habs are still near a playoff position in March, I can see them looking for a depth, vet dman and a better version of Pezzetta who can probably play C.

Go get ROR. Maybe he doesn’t accept, who knows. Dach to wing this season.

Next season:
CC - NS - Demi
Laine - Dach - Slaf
Newhook - ROR - Andy
Heineman - Evans - Gally

That’s a deep lineup.

Not sure what the price would be but ROR does not have any NTC conditions from what I can see. Two more years at $4.5M

He only mentioned Montreal. So I take we have inquired.

If Olivier makes it to July 1st, Montreal likely strong bidder.

I don’t see enough here to show Gourde would supplant Evans as the 3C.
I don't agree he is done. You are guilty of looking at points only to evaluate. A 50+ pts guy at 3C and someone to kill penalties? It's doesn't add up. Gourde would be a solid stop gap for this playoffs and two more seasons. Cost to acquire is affordable and cost to extend for 2 years is also less than what Evans will ask for.

Gourde:
* Age 33
* 49 pts with 17 goals ove his last 115 games (0.43 pts/game)
* 6.61 hits/60
* 2.41 blocks/60
* 1.48 giveaways/60
* 2.25 takeaways/60
* 49% corsi with 62.3% Defensive zone starts
* 48.4 Faceoff %

Evans:
* Age 28
* 53 pts with 18 goals ove his last 129 games (0.41 pts/game)
* 4.42 hits/60
* 2.66 blocks/60
* 1.93 giveaways/60
* 0.99 takeaways/60
* 40% corsi with 80.0% Defensive zone starts
* 52.2 Faceoff %

Gourde's takeaways/60 is among the best in the NHL and his faceoffs is not that far off from Evans.
The above was a reply to me saying Gourde is more of a budget Dvo replacement. I see we are now in agreement?

It might be still worth it to get Gourde to replace Dvorak as well.
