My bad... I thought he was 30
OK, completely ignore that

For sure the goal would be to create 3 balanced offensive lines. So you might see something like this as your duos with whoever else as sort of filler. If somehow Ehlers lands in Montreal this offseason, he would likely take up a top-6 LW role; that’s Demidov’s spot, not Newhook…
I really like Ehlers, but for his signing to make sense, the Habs would either have to try out Demidov at C (an intriguing possibility, considering he prefers this position from what I gather) or make a significant move to acquire a potent LHC (Newhook upgrade) who could take Demidov under his wing on a luxury 3rd line.

Go get ROR. Maybe he doesn’t accept, who knows. Dach to wing this season.
Next season:
CC - NS - Demi
Laine - Dach - Slaf
Newhook - ROR - Andy
Heineman - Evans - Gally
That’s a deep lineup.
Gourde is done. He’s a 30-35 point guy now.I feel the price will be too high and my gut says ROR's milage is catching up to him. I actually like Gourde as a stop gap. His production and stats in many areas beyond Points is on par or better than Evans. His style of game fits MSL structure too.
Gourde could be a 2nd and 3rd and maybe a prospect like Mesar. And I feel we can get him to sign for 2 years at a AAV less than Evans or close to the same. This does buy us time for Hage, Kapanen, Beck.

Little.
They need a 50+ guy to supplant Evans. Buy time for Hage.
Gourde would be a budget Dvo replacement.
age and won a cup is where some people are excited aboutI have yet to understand this obsession with Yanni Gourde
He's not wrong here in the sense that what Savard is bringing to us is more valuable then what he could get in a trade. But his value to us does depend on our circumstances, if our circumstances change between now and the TDL then his relative value to us might change and a trade could happen."He [David Savard] is not going anywhere. I'm going to be very clear about this, he's not going anywhere. That type of influence, from an older player who won the Stanley Cup, is very important. There's nothing the Canadiens can get [in a trade] that's going to be more valuable than David Savard staying with this team and these players until the end of the season." - Craig Button
means he will be gone Button nose is always wrong

he is doing pretty darn good for pittHasn't taken faceoffs regularly in the last 5 years.
Habs don’t need more wingers.

Newhook is the 3c next year. Evans/Beck/Kapanen next year as the 4th C.
He played his best last year when he came back as the 3c to end the year. Basu said it's pretty clear he's taking over 3c duties next year when Demidov takes his spot in the top 6.What I like is his underling stats beyond the points evaluation. It's not an obsession. It's a pondering thought on who we can get if Evans walks.
If we still have Evans next year, he is the 3C. If we are forced to trade him or let him walk and we choose to do nothing, Newhook is the 3C and one of Beck or Kapanen is the 4C.
I don't hate Newhook at 3C but he is not a full time center. He's a winger that can play center if required.

Thank you - this is my point.seriously
if i'm thinking about adding a forward i would start thinking about replacing Anderson and Gally with guys like Crouse/Pospisil/McBain, bottom 6 needs to be big/physical to support our top 6 but they still have to be able to play (also ideally be on cheap contracts)
we have the pieces to call Utah and Calgary to ask about R. Andersson + Pospisil or Crouse + McBain, either of those combos would be good pieces to add (but you'd have to move Anderson in that type of deal)
I don't think you realize there is no room for Newhook on the wing next year in the bottom 6. You still have Gallagher, Anderson, Armia, Heineman and probably Kapanen/Beck who they would probably rather break in on the wing instead of C as well. Maybe they let Armia walk but I'd think Armia wants to stay and they want to keep him.Basu can have his own opinion but I just don't see it. Newhook could not play center with the Avs full time and he has not been able to do that with the Habs (effectively). His faceoffs is not good enough
If Evans is still with us, he is our 3C. Who is the 4C? Not sure. We could sign Gourde for one year or try one of Beck/Kapanen.
Demidov does push Newhook down yes. But I believe we will use Newhook as a winger and we have him in case injuries happen. It's a nice problem to have.

How does Dvo leaving open up space for Newhook on the wing??? WHAT???There is room for Newhook. Dvorak is gone and Armia might be gone as well. I like Armia as well and we have to decide... do we make room for both Beck and Kapanen or not. It's very probable that only one of them makes the Habs roster and the other is in the AHL. That's if Armia walks.
I am not a fan of penciling in both Beck and Kapanen in the line-up next year. We have to stop that now... we are in transition years up the standings and learning on the job is limited at the NHL level. They are going to have to earn the spot over someone else and force our management to make a trade or have someone sit to watch games. I feel Beck needs another AHL season and Kapanen is more ready
I'm a fan of Newhook but him being 3C when Dach is still trying to fill the 2C role is not ideal. Neither of them are good on faceoffs. Even if we try Demidov at center with Dach on his wing, I still think either of them will struggle to win key faceoffs.
The other comment is we have 22 man roster with one open spot right now. So there is basically two spots open (Dvorak and the 23rd guy we are not using at the moment).

No, how about Kirby Dach?Seems like we'd be screwing ourselves over more than anything with this plan lol.
You know whose a perfect stopgap for Hage/Kapanen/Beck?
Jake Evans.
