according to you, a 4th line player whose done nothing will bring back a good return? dude settle down when it comes to armia. Maybe evans will. but usually, when a team trades a top prospect, they want a really good player back, or a 1st, top prospects and picks. so you're wrong
You have no understanding of the deadline I see

I get the incentive to do this now because of Nemec and Mercer, but Canucks are in a weird place where I doubt they'd be comfortable giving up a 1st, and trading away top prospects defeats the purpose of getting younger.
Going from a 31 year old to a 23 year old and a 20 year old is very much in line with the idea of getting younger. In no way does a pick/prospect defeats that purpose.

I have never said otherwise.
In no way does a pick/prospect defeats that purpose.
Giving up extremely valuable picks/prospects just to retain cap space to help facilitate a trade for two underperforming young players while also giving up a borderline elite player is extremely counter productive.

Meh they shouldn't pull a covid deadline and should actually sell. The success of this team is mostly due to the players who are gonna be Long term as habs. Better than wasting assets for nothing. We did enough Bergevinaism

Trading for guys with some term isn't a Bergevinism. It's a HuGoism. It's what they did with Laine (2 years left) and with Carrier (2 years left).

As for the players who will be here long term, you want them playing important games for as long as possible. Their progress is primordial. And that means that they might not trade every upcoming UFA. And if they're still in the mix, it doesn't mean they'll be buyers. It means I think they might look to make hockey trades instead (similar to trading Barron for Carrier).

Evans, Matheson and a 2nd for Nemec. Allow NJD to discuss an extension with Evans before the trade. Matheson still has a year left on his contract after this season. The 2nd helps them make other TDL deals.

Nemec comes into our top 6 immediately. We call up Beck. This is a downgrade, but we should then hold on to Savard, Dvorak and Armia for the playoff push.
pointless

Hage would be untouchable. Don't know why they would want Beck.
While I agree Hage has the tools to become a valuable 2C (maybe even a 1C), Nemec shores up our RHD. Thing with Hage that makes this difficult is not his playing style, it's that he (and his father) have been lifelong Habs fans - which is very hard to come by.

If he wants to play so bad then dont give anything that much value . If he really wants to come here he would terminate his contract and join us. Simple as that
I dont think he can terminate his contract.. but i do agree that if there is a will there is a way. Maybe he shouldn't have signed a new 2 year extention.. his loss i suppose. I simply think not only would his skill bring us a cup, but his leadership is undeniable for a young team like us.

But it's not me just "hoping" for a superstar like Crosby. There is a history for him (incredibly rare) of his childhood dream.
He would not hurt the balance in the room. He has no attitude, just win.. and his contract is relatively cheap for who he is. And (if) he still has fuel in the tank after next year, then he'll sign the team friendly one year deals thereafter.
It's a once in a lifetime opportunity, and while i agree it's an overpayment, non of what we would give would really hurt us.. only Beck would be the sting.

Childhood dreams of playing for the Habs aren't rare. Almost no player actually care about it in adulthood though.

Everything I've heard from Crosby is how he wants to be a Penguins for life. His extension with complete NMC/NTC is proof of that.

Probably.. but theres far more behind the scenes when it comes to a generational player. Take Gretzky for example. Sure he picked LA, but he coukd care less about EDM. Yeah he kept it professional, but reality was he could care less about the Oil.
Sid either needs to declare Penguin forever or bust. Enough of empty platitudes; either commit to a team or own them like Mario

I can’t wait for the day when Christian Dvorak returns to the abyss. I’m so tired of seeing his emotionless face, going through the motions of being a hockey player. He’s like a parasite that slowly sucks the life out of its host.

Addition by subtraction with this guy.
And yet he still has fans, I just don't get it. Some even want to re-sign him LOL.

Guy is the epitome of the Bargain Bin era plug vet -- boring, uninspiring, utterly useless. He's just there.

Two guys I'm looking at is Dylan Cozens and Simon Nemec.

Cozens only if we need a 2C and Dach is starting to get things together.

Nemec we only even try for if we will play him at least on the bottom pairing. We get him then we have Matheson and Hutson on the top pair and Matheson doesn't go UFA for 2 more seasons. This gives Nemec and Reinbacher time to develop. Nemec goes to Laval for 15-20 games and then up to play with Xhekaj. Savard gets moved.

Reinbacher and Nemec could in time be our top pair and 2nd pair RHD for the next decade.

For Nemec, Calgary 1st, Evans , Struble and Anderson ( he has value ).
