HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #89: 2024-2025 season part II

Rental? why , we are not buying . We should be selling or trade for a long term player established.
No need for side moves to rush things tup.
I think we can be both buyers and sellers. Dvorak and Savard are easy to trade away. The names I mentioned won't take much to get, and it would be nice to support the players.

We will be buyers if we get a player added to the core a tlong terms which i think only happen at draft floor or july 1st

The Habs centers are all right-handed (Suzuki, Dach, Evans) except for Dvorak. Beck, Kapanen & Hage are all righties also (I don't consider Newhook a viable C & Florian X is a long shot at 4C).

(probably because of his player experience) MSL doesn't care about analytics and values very much winning face-offs. we often see Dvo on the OT just for that.

Assuming they don't keep Dvorak (!) it means HuGo has a clear mandate from their coach e.g. find a L-handed C strong on Face-offs and able to defend, a reliable vet preferably.

There's not that many good targets for that. I don't believe HuGo will move 2-3 current players in a block-buster trade (team is starting to gel) e.g. no EP.

I think it would make sense to take a "step back" and grab someone like Ryan O'Reilly (33) to be the Habs 2/3 C during the next 3 years, as a stopgap until either Dach or Hage are ready. Maybe cost is Newhook or Evans + some future assets (late 1st or decent prospect). The goal is not to rebuild a U25 team but to rebuild a winning team.

This weakness at C really didn't help Slaf's development, when Monahan got injured his play was affected and again this year when he's not with Suzuki not much is happening. Demidov will need a good top 6 C next year to help him, not an on-going project.

It doesn't have to be O'Reilly / this price but I'm not sure who else fits the bill. It's just I think the Habs will need a new L center next year that is better then Dvorak and potentially better then Dach in order to play with Demidov. And hopefully they don't bet the season on a current asset becoming a good 2C next year e.g. either through trade or UFA they have to find a good leftie C and there's not that many.

Matt Beniers is... a bit of a disappointment maybe ?

Probably not this offseason, but still this point next year if hes going to be pacing for 40ish points you can bet his name will be in rumours.

That's really doubtful. He's only 22 & is their #1 C. They signed Stephenson to take the pressure off him, but he isn't doing that much better.

They're likely to get a top 4 pick. Any of the top four would be a great addition for them.

If they are looking to add a LH C, it's going to be a guy younger than ROR or they are just admitting everything they have said so far is BS.

If they want a LH C, they will get one for the mid/long term.
