HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #89: 2024-2025 season part II

Regarding Nemec, I think he’s available but they’re probably gonna try to package him for a big fish. They don’t have their 1st this year but they have 3 seconds, Nemec. Casey, Silayev, Mercer and Gritstyuk. And all their 1st starting next year.

I think they’ll try to trade for the next big star forward available. They have the assets to make it happen.

A target like Nemec is nice but he needs to be available. We are talking about the #2 OA pick that the Devils likely still value very high. That likely requires us to trade Slaf or Hage or Reinbacher pieces and we prefer not too.

Remember, the point of trading for Andersson is to have impact now and future. Guys like Nemec and Reinbacher and Hage are 3+ year solutions until they are ready for prime time. By then, Suzuki is 2 years away from UFA and needs a massive raise.
It just depends where Montreal is interested in going. Unless management has total faith in Reinbacher or in Ghule playing on the right side, Montreal needs a RHD.

Nemec is on the side of the longer rebuild and Andersson is almost too old and represents the sped up rebuild. If there was somehow a player in between that becomes available then Montreal should throw everything and the kitchen sink. Reinbacher and Hage should be on the table for that.

Montreal should have good chance on Andersson. They have the top pick to offer. Flames own back to them. Most contenders have only late first to trade. Doubt Calgary blown away by 30th pick in draft.

Given how Matheson has played recently on the right side, and how much of a stabilizing presence Carrier has been for the bottom of our lineup, do we even need Andersson for this year considering that we likely aren't gonna be competing?

For this year alone I'd say that we don't need Andersson. In the future though, he'd be a tremendous grab if we acquire him and he re-signs (depending on contract of course).

If we had some kind of assurance that Andersson would re-sign I'd say to go for it. The guy can be a great defenseman for us for the next 4-7 years without losing too much given how smartly he plays defense and how he doesn't overrely on physical attributes like skating to defend.

But sadly we have exactly none of those guarantees that he'd be open to re-signing with the Canadiens right away, and so it becomes a bit of a risky business for us to acquire a top-end D like Andersson.

If we don't play our cards right we could end up in a similar situation to Ottawa, where we acquire a guy that we ultimately end up having to trade-away the year after for lesser assets than those used to get him in the first place. That, or lose him for nothing as a UFA.

Which leads me to think that if we had to really make a move to improve our team this season and beyond, we'd have to go for someone with more team control remaining than Andersson.

Andersson seems to want to remain in Calgary; for some unknown reason.
Taxes?

Always preferred paying 28% than 54%, personally, when I was down in Alberta on the Oil fields making money that placed me in the highest bracket.
