HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #89: 2024-2025 season part II

Wow everyone is just so positive :P

While I like Carrier, I don't view him as a long term piece, more of a stop gap. Yes, I understand size = good but it's not everything.
Drysdale is an all world skater with good hockey sense and playmaking, only 4 years removed from being drafted as a potential top pair defenseman. He's had some bad injury luck and has had to play on some bad hockey clubs since becoming an NHLer. He may never amount to anything but I'd take the chance.

Rasmus Andersson is of course of great interest if the habs intend to be 'in the mix', however why would Calgary trade him if they are also trying to win? Just for shits and giggles, could a trade of Matheson and Calgarys 1st for Andersson work as a base?

The team also cannot move Jake Evans under any circumstance if they are in or near a playoff spot, UFA or not. He is a major part of the teams success and is home grown. I can't imagine trading him being anything but demoralizing.
If the habs go cold and fall out of the race is the only way he should be traded.
Maybe Evans and Mailloux for Nemec :D
Drysdale is a glass body. Habs have enough of those.

If I was in Evans' shoes I'd test the market and let a team (ideally a contender) overpay for me, this is probably the biggest payday of his career he's looking at.

He's made money alright but not enough to take a discount, he should seize this one in a lifetime opportunity.

And if I was in Hughes' shoes I wouldn't overpay for him... So I still think a trade is better for everyone.

What's underpay and what's overpay for Evans anyway?

He can't expect to make bank as if he's played this way his whole career.

I haven't seen any insiders throw any numbers out there. Are we talking 4m x 5 years? More? Less?

I definitely prefer resigning him if it's reasonable.

Looking at the weakly Sens, I wonder what it would take for the Sens to trade us Tkachuk. I mean he's more peripheral than a top player and that is why the Sens are going nowhere. But he would shine on a team with more scoring depth. I wonder if Slaf + could make it happen for Tkachuk.

It would require Blackmail. Forget Slaf, he's a big question mark for everyone around the league.

let’s say we draft 14th and 16th. If we package them, how close could we get to the top 10? What would we need to add on top of that to get around 8th to grab Desnoyers?

I'm not convinced Desnoyers makes a difference, it would be a waste. The gap between those ranks doesn't look that big. I'd rather pick twice. Target a defender and a center, whoever are BPA.

I wonder what is the perception about him? He's still a first round pick with potential. Positively if he keep producing and the Habs peform and the Sens don't, then around the TDL the Habs would be in a better position to make a deal. Slaf + Newhook + Matheson.

Flip a coin.............the last 3 games, both The Sherriff and Struble have been pretty good.....the problem of course every time we go back to we don't have enough RHD to make the pairs work, so trading Savard if he fetches something good would be great, but we don't have another righty ready.
I don't see us getting much at all for Savard. Maybe a 2nd? Is a 2nd worth giving him up if we're in a playoff spot?

But then again GMs do get wild at TDL. Maybe one gets super drunk and offer us a 1st who knows, never say never!

Yeah, B. Tkachuk is an established, physical PPG winger and basically the best case version of what we hope Slaf will be in 5 years. I'd make that swap every day and twice on Sunday but Ottawa wouldn't for obvious reasons.

Slaf is a question mark (with nice potential but still a question mark) and is seen as such around the league whether people like it or not.

Washington has done well in getting 3 castoffs for next to nothing: PLD, Chychrun, and Strome.

Gotta give them credit.
I was half joking there.
That PLD contract is still a bit of a risk but i don't think he's as bad as some made him out to be.

Caps were very lucky though with 19M of cap space coming into their lap.
I agree they did pretty well with it.

Trotz as per Lebrun, had been trying to land Barron, over the 12 months before he traded for him.

Trotz has also voiced dissatisfaction towards several of his players given how the team committed to UFAs this past summer and threatened to jettison some players in trades.

How would you feel if Hughes could get a Stammer off their hands, with a little retention perhaps? Yes he’s 34 but he only has 3 more years after this and plays center — great mentor filling a position of need. He’s been a high point producer over the past 3 years. They’d be getting him on a down year.

We’d have to check Newhook’s neck length to be sure but — what if Trotz values a Newhook? 💀

PLD is probably a huge risk. But this summer, it did cross my mind that it would interesting to bring in both PLD and Laine at bargain prices. We probably could have gotten PLD for the Gallagher or Anderson contract. But it's a huge risk for sure.
