Matheson is worth a late first at best (not a true first pair), and 20+27 doesn’t get you #6, especially for the first pick of a “new” franchise. Of course, you’re also paying a premium for acquiring this top pick so close to the draft.

It definitely is an overpayment in terms of absolute value, but we all know 4x25 cents isn’t worth a dollar in this league. Depends how high you are on Beck for this proposal, but Utah will want a good prospect if they’re not getting that top D back (which I don’t believe Barron is anymore)

Matheson is worth more than a late first as he is on a great contract and will be very good for the next 3-5 years. He is worth more than a Monahan rental which netted us a late first. He absolutely is a 1st pairing dman (annoying designation), maybe not a true #1 on a contender but certainly playing second string to such a defender as his partner.

The only dman who is even comparable as a skater is Makar and Matheson is bigger and more physical. He is an absolutely elite skater and PMD and it would undoubtedly take more than a late 1st to acquire him and his team friendly contract. Every single team in the NHL would want him and the bidding would easily net us two premium assets if not more.

Throwing in Beck who is likely worth a mid first rounder and the 26th overall pick is just horrendous asset management when the return is an 18 year old sixth overall pick who could easily flop.

Why? What do you see in Jeannot that we already don't have with Pezzetta, Anderson, Armia, Gallagher?

Pezzetta is a great depth guy who can watch games and play some here and there. Adding Jeannot to an already crowded bottom 6 is just weird to me.

Jeannot can fight. He can pk, too. Pezzetta just isn't an NHLer.

You get Jeannot and hope he works out and sign him to a longer contract around 3 years for about 1.5 per.

I thought Domi looked pretty good for the Leafs in the playoffs. He plays well under the spotlight and the Leafs are in a cap crunch and can't afford him.

Maybe under a more offensively minded coach in MSL who values creativity there could still be some untapped potential there.
