I think we could use some maturity. We have a very immature team. Weegar and Andersson are both worth acquiring in their own ways.
It would require Michael Hage… who *would* be expendable if Dach and Newhook weren’t such mega busts… but as it stands we can’t afford to lose so much draft capital between all that was spent to acquire Dach+Newhook+Hage. It’s left us depleted.
Other than Hage what do we have to offer to get a medium-big fish? We need a top pairing dman and a 2C.
You’re running the risk that EP never gets back to 100pt form. He’s on pace for less than 80. It’s a big big risk. What if he’s a lemon?
Depending on Calgary/Florida's pick that could be used.
There is... well, Ekblad. With him and Bennett as ufas Florida can only sign one and while I'd like Bennett, Ekblad might be that ufa.
Ekblad, again will be 30 just over half way through the season.
The good news about Weegar/Ekblad is that if anyone were to still be good, it's a dman.
If the Habs are going to pay the price for a good dman, my choice is easily Weegar.
His contract being a nice deal already will just look even better in a year, or two from now when you might be paying Ekblad, or Andersson even more than him and I believe neither are better.
That's just me adding more names.
I'm not sure if this management is ready to do that, only because the closest they've come was trading Romanov and 2 3rds for Dach.
Tl;dr Weegar would be my choice to trade for, but have to imagine he's also the most expensive out of all of them.
Weegar would be a sick dpartner for Hutson.
Weegar also has bite and toughness to his game, too.
