If the Habs want to acquire an elite player, in a sort of Eichel-type trade, they have the following pieces available.

Gold coins
2025 1st
Calgary 1st
Michael Hage

Silver coins
2026 1st
Kirby Dach
Alex Newhook
Owen Beck
Joshua Roy
Sam Montembeault
Can Fowler
Engstrom
Cap space

Bronze coins
Mesar
Tuch
Struble
Lots and lots of 2nds and 3rds.
Etc

I assume that Suzuki, Caulfield, Laine, Slafkovsky, Demidov, Reinbacher, Guhle, Hutson, Xhekaj are not being traded, but then again I used to think that about Romanov.

Matheson should be at the top....depending on the team...

Some Oilers fans saying according to one of their insiders, Oilers could be interested in Matheson

Found the tweet they were referring to and sounds like it's just insiders opinion.....but wonder what we would want from EDM?

Been saying Evans would look fantastic there. He fits like a glove IF we decide to trade him. So maybe package deal of Evans+Matheson? But for what??
Now that they've lost Holloway and Broberg, Edmonton don't have much to give anymore.
They don't have their 1st in 2025 either.
Like someone else mentionned, they don't have much cap space and no obvious candidates for a cap dump.
Matheson would have to be retained on and it will cost them even more.

I don't see the Habs being interested in mid prospects. They have already plenty of those and they are harder to flip than picks.

So i don't see them as a good fit for Matheson, trade wise.

Maybe the Habs can take advantage of the Rangers or the Canucks and pry their 2025 1st.
They'll probably end up being in the top 20.

I think Evans is a more realistic target for Edmonton. He should be cheaper to acquire.

EDM 1st

Should see if they can get this guy in a deal if they do trade with the Oilers.

I just used EP without adblocker and it's unusable just like HF

Maybe work Meth into some bigger deal.

Since you love fake trades, did you see this one?

💀

That’s a pretty good trade for VAN

I’m not sure the Habs wanna take the risk of Pettersson becoming a lemon at 10.5/year in exchange for Caufield. And Dvorak and Savard should be getting us back something more than a late 2nd.

It's a shame they only have junk. Would make great trading partners. Even last year I thought they should have gotten Allen.

Didn't realize they didn't have their 2025 1st...

Oilers will not have the cap space for Evans+Matheson and their only UFA with enough $ to make it work is Skinner (the forward, not the goalie  ). Or throwing in two forwards making $1m which doesn't make much sense since Habs are full at forwards.
What about Adam Henrique? He has one more year left at 3M. Could we used him as stop gap at C if we trade away Evans?

Henrique could be interesting, he's a leftie too. It might reduce the return thought since I don't think he's a useless piece like Skinner is (who's now on the Oilers 4th line).

Henrique is nowhere near a 2C at this point in his career, he's really no better than Dvorak.
Dvorak is who Henrique would be replacing. The idea is to have a stop gap C to not have two new rookies at C next season after moving Evans and Dvorak are gone. And if the Habs can get that in a trade for Evans/Matheson somewhere as a cap dump, why not...

I'd still argue Henrique is a downgrade from Dvorak, he's real close to being done as an NHLer.

I'm still shocked at just how bad the Oilers did this off season. They really had so little to do and they just dropped the ball completely. If you're going to lose Broberg, McLeod and Holloway, at least get an actual goaltender. Skinner lost them the cup.

I'd argue maybe even two cups. They had Vegas beat with a timely save or two.

There must be a reason why Canucks fans are talking about EP in trade talk and not Miller since The Rift resurfaced. ;)
He doesn't have any Kiefer Sherwood in him? :dunno:

They don't only have junk, but i don't think they have enough to get Matheson.
I doubt the Habs would let him go for a late first. Not worth it in my opinion.

They probably might for Evans though.
