Savard is minimum a cond 2nd round pick. RHD with experience who won the cup. He looks bad because he is used too much against too strong competition but on a stacked team's 3rd pairing he would be fine. Teams value this kind of player a lot for a cup run. We paid a cond 3rd round pick for Dwight King who was a struggling 4th line winger.

Even Dvorak has been playing better lately being on a line with Gallagher and Anderson. Armia's been solid on the 4th with Heineman and Evans.

Their value may still be low, but it has gone up of late nonethless.

For example, Dvorak might have gotten you a 4th or 5th earlier in the season. But he's been effective lately and if he keeps this up, a team may be willing to offer a 3rd.

Thing is, we don't want Calgary to make the playoffs. We want the 1st round pick we have from them to be a non-playoff pick. As long as they don't fall into the Top-10, because then we get Florida's 1st, which will surely be a late 1st round pick.

If Calgary misses the playoffs, but they pick between 11 and 15, Habs get that pick. So we don't want them going in any kind of playoff run.

The problem is The Canucks won't want futures, If you call about EP they ask for something(s) big off of the roster or they start talking about Demidov....

I would love to get him but the last thing The Habs should do is help Calgary get better.

I don't think Pospisil addresses a need for us. I certainly would not trade Evans for him.

It’s their chance at a payday, there’s no small chance they chase the dollars. The Habs won’t be competitive any time soon at this rate either, so it’s not like we can promise them that.

Unless we jack up our pt% over Jan and fall firmly into “the mix”, it doesn’t make sense to retain any of the UFAs — unless Evans specifically wants to stay and signs a friendly extension, which I don’t see happening.

I doubt they'll be holding on to Evans. Got to move on with the glut of centers we're getting. The estimated waiver year on Beck and Kapanen is 2027-28 btw. It could slide, but both will need their ice time soon. That means we can't sign Jake long or medium term.

Jake Evans doesn't make them a contender, lets not exaggerate. Without some help Calgary will slip into the top 10, and then we'll get Florida's 1st. They are a contender.

I imagine they look for cheap upgrades, like a roster player and a 4th for a slight upgrade and not selling too much of the future.

Jake would be a cheap upgrade in this case. Maybe not the best, but you know the more he performs as he does right now the better upgrade he becomes and the higher the likely-hood we get a good return. Could even go to a 1st

Id keep Evans but the other 3 can easily be replaced by young guys or depth pick ups on July 1st.

Savard was already replaced by Carrier.

The other 3 are not that hard to replace, they just need to be replaced via equivalent type players and not fancy zero-defensive IQ who can't PK players. Can be from UFA, trade or prospects.

The main problem will still be the 2nd line center if Dach can't fix his mojo.

I'm reading two things:

That Hughes will bring in a haul by trading them at the deadline.

Which is it? That seems like a bit of a contradiction to me.

Is it just me or Savard is looking terrible? There’s a reason he’s on the bottom pairing , he’s just too slow now and a real liability.

Look at Carrier-Guhle last night. Quick on the puck in the d-zone, fast transition renders the opposition’s forecheck completely ineffective. When Savard is on the ice, he’s so slow to get to the puck that we end up defending most shifts.

All that to say, I think we’re not a worst team playing Mailloux on the bottom pairing so just trade him now.

There definitely won't be a haul at TDL.
The only player that has garnered interest so far is Jake Evans.

Yes, and I don't think KH signs a center to a long term contract with: Beck, Kapanen, Hage, potentially the 2025 1st round pick, potentially Demidov, Dach & Newhook who will all be able to fill bottom 6 minutes in some way.

Unless Dach proves otherwise, we have ONE NHL capable center under contract for next season.

Of course they are going to invest in the position, unless you believe they are perfectly fine with wrecking another season after this one.

I can see the Habs going to Savard and telling him if they get a certain return they'll move him, but if his value falls to like a 4th, or 5th I can see the Habs keeping Savard and re-signing him, but he's told he won't be a regular next year.

Veteran, good leadership, seems well liked by the team and a RHD.

So, you re-sign him and he plays like 50 games, or maybe less next year.

You get that depth dman and one you know.

Reinbacher will need at least half of next season in the A and then reevaluate.

Mailloux has slowed down, so he will probably need more time to see where he's at.

I haven't looked at potential available RHD just know of Ekblad and he might be 7ish mill
