"No. 1, we know what that Montreal Canadiens blueline should look like in the not too distant future. So you're going to see the likes of David Reinbacher, you're going to see Logan Mailloux occupying a full-time position on that Montreal blueline. Alright, so they create a little bit more room there, but they also bring in the experience of Alexandre Carrier and that could help them kind of make their way to the future.

"But in the meantime, if someone were to make an offer on say veteran defenceman like Savard or (Mike) Matheson, then this gives backfill to Kent Hughes to consider that between now and March 7th. So Kent Hughes is in a pretty good spot in terms of trying to bolster what he already has."

There's no real reason to give him a new deal, he'll get a decent return at the deadline and we can find a younger/cheaper vet next summer to fill his role.
He won't be coming back for sure. I don't think we'll get much in return for him given his play this year, maybe a 3rd/4th....but you take it and thank him for his service.

You might be surprised with his return, I'm willing to bet it's going to be a lot more than that. Teams hoping for a long run are always looking for that type of players .

I'm sure Kent could squeeze a 2nd out of him.

If we receive a second we should be jumping for joy. A timely injury to a contending team could help make this happen.

Savard is minimum a cond 2nd round pick. RHD with experience who won the cup. He looks bad because he is used too much against too strong competition but on a stacked team's 3rd pairing he would be fine. Teams value this kind of player a lot for a cup run. We paid a cond 3rd round pick for Dwight King who was a struggling 4th line winger.

He's a 3rd pairing on our team though and he's looked terrible. The biggest issue is the continued lack of speed and agility. He's glacial out there lol.

Whatever it is we get, we take and move on. He's been a good soldier for the team and the youngsters.

Not with the way he has looked and performed this season. An d he looks f***ing slow. Like I mentioned before and agree with others, at best I think were looking at a 2nd rounder. But I'm more than happy to be wrong and hope you are right!

Not really he's the 4th most used dman in our team. At 18:50 he is playing too much should be in the 15-16 range.

That's because we've taken the most penalties in the league and he's a PK guy. I agree he should be playing 15 minutes max at this stage of his career.

If the Buffalo want to shake up things, I think HuGo have to submit some offers. Thompson will cost too much, and Cozens too probably, but a player I'd really like them to target and would be a bit cheaper is JJ Peterka. I always loved his game since his WJC performances, he's a still young 50+ points player with a great motor. He can play C and could fill in on the 2nd line. Two mobile, intense guys in Newhook and Peterka would complement Laine well. Cozens would fit too but he's going to cost way more than what Id be comfortable with.

hopefully having Carrier to lean on should allow us to ease back on savard's usage and he gains back some value leading up to the tdl

When all is said and done, what do
people think of Savard’s time here?

I personally did not like the signing from the beginning, and while I respect his professionalism, I really don’t think he made a significant contribution. He was/is just kinda there like a warm body

Buttalo is going to f*** things up for themselves if they start dealing away their young talent. They are becoming this generation's Mike Milbury. We should absolutely be kicking the tires to see what we can get from them.

with the season he's having, i'm not surprise that there are no contract talk. His play decline too much to be a staple moving forward.

That said, I wouldn't be again re-signing him next summer as a 7D and with the very clear role of supporting the young guys and play 40 games or so...

He was badly needed as a veteran presence on the right side. But he's a bottom tier player who filled a void. Nothing special about him but we needed him.

Savard has been quite good on the PK - the teams record is far superior w him in the lineup va without him during his time here

But it’s clear Carrier was brought in to be a younger version of Savard (shot blocker, PK efficiency) - albeit not as physically big
