That is always possible too.

I am not sure what I would like to see more, a trade for a strong centreman or a trade for a top pairing Dman. I think I'd prefer the latter.
Our defensive core is very young. With Savard going away this summer and maybe Matheson traded. We pretty much have 0 vet at defense. Kent will probably sign a vet or trade for one.

He absolutely will. But it must be someone else than Savard he's too old. Must be a solid top 4. Someone like Rasmus Anderson. I'd let Matheson go cause he and Hutson are the same for now and Hutson has the potential to be much better in the future.

I'd go

Hutson - vet
Guhle - Rainbacher/Mailloux/Engstrom (whoever is best at camp)
Xhekaj - vet (3rd pairing signed 1 or 2 years max someone disposable signed close to league's minimum in case more than 1 of the above blossom)
Struble as 7th dman

I would love to sign a guy like Borgen in Seattle. Plays PK and can chip in offensively. That being said, he is not the big piece we need at RHD.

If available, my guy is R. Andersson. Plays PK, plays PP. Good for 24-25 minutes. Pretty good skater and good for 40-50 pts per season.

Hutson-Andersson
Guhle-Reinbacher
Xhekaj-Borgen
Struble-Engstrom

Would be a pretty solid DCore if Reinbacher develops well.

Habs best chance at Andersson be UFA in '26. Flames will get the moon for him now

Have to ask a Calgary fans what the price for R. Andersson?

Does Matheson + Picks/prospect work? Calgary first round pick this year +?

We can't have 4 dman under 24 years old playing in the top 4.
Hutson and Andersson will be great Duo. It would also put Guhle at his natural position, It also give Reinbacher time to develop with out rushing him to our #2.

Matheson certainly fits the description of puck mover.

Q. Hughes isn't enough as a puck moving D? They seem to be weak at LHD after him thought.

Probably want Desharnais included in the trade since Friedman said Canucks were trying to move him a few days ago and they need the cap space to take anyone over $1.5m aav.

I don't think that's enough to get us the center we would want. What top centers of the right age for us are available?
we'd have to offer up Mailloux, CGY 1st (25), Habs First (26) to nab EP from Vancouver. if by doing this deal, we shore up our top 6 with 2 legit Cs, draft Martone, then the above package should not be an issue.

We'd also have to address the RHD with another trade of some sort.

But top 6 now looks like this: with good bottom 6 depth.

It's still very much an issue because even universal consensus BPA guys bust/disappoint/don't reach Dobson's level.

Going with BPA from these boards we probably end up with Brule, Galchenyuk, Zadina, Wright, Michkov, Demidov, so not sure that actually helps any. And looking beyond our own draft picks it's pretty easy to see that guys drafted in that 3-5 range fail fairly regularly.

Brule was never BPA, Galchenyuk was but that was a horrific draft year. What's wrong with Wright, Michkov, Demidov? Shane is looking pretty solid as our own pick ...

I don't think that's gets us Pettersson.

Maybe if you change the Habs pick to 2025, and give them the option of taking Reinbacher

2025 1st
2025 1st Calgary
Reinbacher/or/Mailloux
Any other prospect except Beck

Massive overpayment. Yes, it will take a lot to get him but Habs 2025 1st could land Misa or another Center. Have no problem moving Logan but not DR

Just too Much.

true, they might want "Hage" back instead of a D... who knows but that is about the package required.

Slafkovsky - Pettersson - Laine
Caufield - Suzuki - Demidov

That's a sweet top 6. Oldest player is 26. This could be good enough to win a Cup or two.

And what about the D core?

If you include DR in the package, not much is left for D core prospects. Wifi, Struble, Barron aren’t going to cut it.

Not winning any cups with that D core or the group of D prospects that have left if you take DR out. Barron, Wifi, and Struble are not top 4 guys. There D core is a disaster.

Brule was the guy most people here wanted at the time. Nothing's all that wrong with Wright, but he's not and will likely never be a better player then Dobson. And even if he was that's still only a 50/50 hit rate.

We would have to acquire at least 2 right side defensemen

Hutson - Mailloux/Acquisition
Ghule - Acquisition/Mailloux
Xhekaj - Struble/Acquisition

That's the sound of the phone hanging up.
Oh I agree. I don’t know why his name is out there to begin with. Why the hell would they want to trade him in the first place?

But if he is available? He’d be worth going after for sure. We have tons to trade with.

The whole right side is beyond bad. Not easy to find two top 4 RD.
The offense flows through Hutson on the first pairing, so all we need is a big smart reliable stay at home defensive player. Same thing for the second pairing as the action can flow through Guhle.

So 2 big defensive veterans needed. Not necessarily easy to find but it shouldn't be that hard.
