anyone see this yesterday, it was stated that Nik Ehlers may have MTL as a preferred destinations as a UFA next summer. Reasoning behind it is Laine. They are real good friends and he sees or was told by Laine about fan reception.

Don't know much about him but he seems to be a 25ish goal, 50-60 point player year in year out as a Jets player.

Couple of questions

1- Is he a fit?
2-Would you tender an offer?

Like I said don't know the player besides what his stats say
I don't think he's much of a fit for us but it's not a hard no. If he's willing to give a very team friendly deal for this "preferred destination" then we should at least consider it, but it should be more of a plan C or D.

Ehlers is a winger and with Demidov next season, there won't be any spot on the top 6 for him and he's not going to ask for 3rd line money. Just isn't a fit.

maybe a surprise coming?

"There will be "negotiations" between the representatives of the Montreal Canadiens present in Russia and the SKA of Saint-Petersburg, today, concerning Ivan Demidov." - TVA Sports
Obviously knowing that the organization managed to make the trip to Russia and, in addition, that there will be "negotiations", is enough to excite CH fans.

Moreover, compared to the term used in Russian according to MatchTV, "peregovory", it does indeed mean negotiation or talks.

But does that mean that Hughes and Lecavalier will return to Montreal with a brand new Demidov in their suitcases?" - TVA Sports

I find it odd that they'd go 3 from management just to see him play and talk to him, especially when they know he hardly plays. Has to be more to it.

1 - Not really
2 - Yea I would

If he’s coming on a good deal, I think we’d be dumb to turn down a player of his calibre.
Speedy, creative, versatile, and a good veteran leader that can play with just about anybody. Drives play 5v5 and would do wonders for PP2. We suck off the rush and I think adding him and Demidov would really shift our capacities there. Guaranteed we’ll have injuries so I wouldn’t fuss about who plays on the third line when everyone is healthy.

I think there is more to this. maybe not .. let's hope
not sure if KHL would every break the agreement, that would set now for other teams to ask too

The way Canucks fans are talking, EP might be available for real. Then there is Cozens..."centers are hard to trade for or never available"

Or pushes them down into a 3rd line role

Slaf-Suzuki-Caufield
Demidov-????-Laine
Newhook-Beck-Dach
Heineman-Evans-Anderson
That is always possible too.

I am not sure what I would like to see more, a trade for a strong centreman or a trade for a top pairing Dman. I think I'd prefer the latter.

Well in the past 20 years we've had 6 top-5 picks, and feels like Dobson would've been better then who we picked in 3 if not 4 of those 6 years. The top of the draft always looks very shiny, but especially once you get past spot #2 it's often quite hit or miss.

Just take the BPA and it isn't an issue. If it was Brady, Hughes, Dobson.. whatever.. but it certainly was never Kotkaniemi or Reinbacher

I thought about that, but we would still have quite a few forwards, don't forget most probably Kapanen coming back as well. I doubt Gallagher is the 13th forward..

I personally would move 1 of Dach or Newhook in a bigger trade with picks and prospects and acquire a top 6 center. Like if the Rags want to dance, I know he has 5 years left, but Ziba I think could be a good fit here.

Cozens forget it, the Sabres aren't moving him to us..

SORRY duh who is ep 40
Elias Pettersson from the Canucks

Rasmus Andersson and EP40

Lets get it done
Andersson should have been a target in the off season when there was rumors of him being moved, would have came at such a cheaper price!!

Is Newhook someone you can really build with? And what qualifies him to be a 3C, with many on here questioning his IQ? I like the speed game he brings but he’s not a very creative playmaker. And some have expressed concern about size in the bottom 6.

I’m not sure if or where he fits, although I do appreciate that Beck can use a mentor. Could that role not best filled by someone else who could be on the market by the summer? 💀
Newhook bad on faceoffs. Something Dvorak is good at. I would try Beck as 3rd line center next year. Between Gallagher and Anderson.

So who is your odd man out in the top 6?
CC, Suzuki, Laine, JS, Demidov, Laine, Dach, Newhhok.. 2 players too many and no chance any of these guys are on the 4th line!!

That's why I think moving one of Dach or Newhook for a true top line center should be priority in the next few weeks or a top 3 D

Rasmussen and EP40 would cost us a RIDICULOUS amount of assets, if we have enough of them of interest to begin with.

Dach was looking amazing before the leg injury.. let's not rewrite history because he looks bad after losing an entire season and is playing within the confines of a roster that has yet to find a semblance of their play late in last season.
Correct. And you can look back at the Dach thread to see this. Big, physical center who we thought would be 60 points on the 2nd. Injuries came at the worst time.
Newhook also had a pretty solid end to last year as well. He's playing adequate hockey right now and should settle in as a 3rd line winger who uses his speed offensively and defensively.
Correct again. Depth player and we paid a depth player price for him.
