Friedman speculating that Pittsburgh might be looking at Dach.

32 thoughts around the 22 minute mark
Pittsburgh can look all they want, I very much doubt he’d be in play for them or for anyone else. Hughes will want to see what he has on hand and that can’t be immediately gauged for a player coming back from major surgery.

I don’t like any of this Kirby Dach trade talk. He missed all of last year other than the first game. He has skill that no other current centre has on the team.

I think that next year is the year I expect big things from him. I would keep the Suzuki / Caufield / Slafkovsky line together and then have Dach centre Laine and Demidov. That should be two good scoring lines.

Which skills? Suzuki is better in every aspect than Dach even physically. How many games we gotta wait? He's turning 24 in January. He's probably been training since this summer and he played preseason and 2 months already. We act like he forgot to play hockey. Markov and Price missed years due to injuries and we didn't have to wait 3 years worth of hockey, they were good when they returned. Feel like his injury at this point is just trying to cope the fact he's been flat as hell.

He's -18 while Newhook is at -11.
He averages close to 17min a game , plays on the first PP and has played with Suzuki , Caufield . He has 1 goal and 7 assists , that's brutal.

Heineman has 5 goals 2 assists with 10min 45sec average of icetime on the bottom 6 and it's literally his rookie season.

Even Armia or Anderson who are completely awful offensively bring more on the table with less icetime. At one point we gotta wonder that perhaps we misjudged his skill sets?

If you want to be really mean, check when he was put with Slaf. Apart from the 3 point game, Slaf was pointless the entire time he played with Dach, even when they were with Suzuki. (The first game they were seriously put together Slaf got a point, but it was a 2nd assist on a Dvorak goal with Heineman as the other assist.) The first game Slaf doesn't have him as major linemate during his 'slump', 1g 1a.

Slaf was also the top +/- player for quite a while, until Dach was his linemate...

Exactly , Suzki is somehow +1 while Dach his -18 , like at some points perhaps the problem is him. We are giving him literally every chances to produce and he does nothing , he doesnt even pass or go in the traffic in front of the net.

Hes like Drouin but bigger at this moment , far from what we saw last seasons

I think there might seriously be a curse about 3rd overall picks and Montreal  We are batting 0/4 at this point.

The problem is that Dach has had more major injuries than he’s had good seasons in the NHL. He’s got a wrist that was more or less destroyed, and now a knee that’s been completely rebuilt. The wrist injury is why you never really see him shoot the puck and why Chicago moved him in the first place. The knee injury is devastating and takes time to heal - will it heal enough to allow him to be a NHL Player? I don’t know, but it doesn’t look great right now.

You can’t compare him to Markov and Price in that regard, their injuries never came during their major formative years. Their injuries were after they had established themselves as legitimate superstars. Dach we only see glimpses of the size and the talent and expect him to put everything together, but with a rebuilt wrist and knee, I’m not sure we should have any expectations at this point.

We aren’t at Christmas yet. Perhaps things will change for the better as he continues to get more ice time and work through the recovery process. I don’t think Habs management will cut bait on him this year, but he will need to severely change his trajectory if he wants to keep wearing a Montreal Canadians sweater.

I mean does having a wrist injury , makes you make the weirdest play or the worst pass attempts? I mean at one point you can say he was injured , Pacioretty was half dead on the ice once and still cameback strong. His Wrist injury does not make him do stupid decisions. I don't mind giving him more chance but if we are to a point we can trade him for something better with added assets you do it

I never accused him of being intelligent, and I think you’re right about most of what you’re writing.

Honestly, I suspect he was one of those kids that was bigger than others at an early age and consequently never developed better fundamentals or hockey sense - because he didn’t have to…

Not every player has the same mentality or toughness when it comes to injuries either. You’ve got a bulldog like Brendan Gallagher who would keep coming with half a leg and a missing ear, and you’ve got Jonathan Drouin that disappeared for a few years when he lost his smile.

100% agree with you on this , Gallagher also changed the way he's been playing. He has the common sense to use his strength at his advantage , Dach needs to do this. If not well he won't stay long after his 2 years bridge contract
