Question for those who think Mailloux has more value than Jiricek and that Jiricek's value is more comparable to Barron's. Does that mean that Reinbacher has even less value than Barron given that Jiricek had a better D+1 and didn't lose an entire year of development compared to Reinbacher?

Jiricek’s value is no where near Barron’s and anyone who thinks that has their head in the sand.

But to answer your 2nd question, Jiricek has more value IMO than Reinbacher at this stage of the game. I still consider them relatively equal prospects though. Jiricek the higher offensive ceiling and Reinbacher the better defensive ceiling.

Portzline includes Montreal in the list of teams that make thr most sense

Montreal haven't been brought up as a team trying to get Jiricek yet by the media. So I guess this is a new one.

But one of Barron/Mailloux would need to go the other way. No point in keeping 3 samey RHDs all fighting for the same spot on the team.

Don't think we are in on him.

I don't think Seravalli knows anything personally. At least, Portzline is a journalist tied to the Jackets and he's just talking about "make sense" instead of "deal imminent".

not sure... I think KH has enough project players.

KH needs to make a trade for a proven player. not a maybe project
Jiricek is a proven AHL player, he will fit right in on the Habs team. :sarcasm:

absolutely this, we made enough of 'maybe' trades and if management are going make another trade it needs to be for a sure thing.

i like newhook and Dach and haven't given up on them at all, but it cant be another 'lets see what he can do' addition .

This!
Short term, Dach should be put back at C for a final test, but at the same time, KH should be focusing his search on a 2C that can help for the next 2 seasons until Hage or our 2025 1st can step in.

He also need to rebalance the D and get a mix of skill that complement as opposed to what we have right now, but that is less urgent.
Dach just comes back from a season-long injury which may take most of this season to get back up to speed (if not the whole season) and you want to give him his 'final' test after 20 games?

Final test maybe harsh here but playing him at W wont give him much more confidence or drive. He needs to be played where you want him to succeed. Should he not progress, then you know you need another C ASAP.

I think if Kent Hughes is going to be trading good assets at this point, it has to be for someone that has an immediate impact.
I actually disagree.

if he is to trade for a young d man, it is. simply because he think this player will be an asset to build around. irrespective if he bring immediate result.

I think management has been very clear that this is still a tanking years and they don't care by a quick fix . so it is only the fans expectations that are disappointed.

My reservation about the Jiricek pick:

1. He's already struggling, which is okay in and of itself. However:
2. When you actually look at the history of each draft, the odds of the entire top 10 selection being impact players aren't really that high. Yes, better odds than outside the top 10, but not all in the top are going to hit. And basically, we want Jiricek because of his draft pedigree more than anything else. But a 6th overall pick struggling in their D+3 year is still a gamble when you consider the odds of hitting.
3. Given point #3, Jiricek is as much a project in my mind as Dach, Barron, Newhook, Slaf, and Reinbacher are. And we are already super impatient with these folks. People already willing to give up on Reinbacher and he hasn't even played an nhl game yet. Hell some people want to dump him in his D+1.

I'm not sure I take the risk unless it is really sell low like Barron + 2nd for Jiricek.

If it’s picks, Montreal can beat most any team. Add a prospect or two and they’d have the assets, just a question of if they want to use them in Jiricek. Remember that they’d have intel on him from Pascal Vincent.
