Dude isn't the best, but he's good back there, can be a leader, veteran leadship and likely cheap.
Again, if there's a 1st involved for him, then pass, but I'd wager with his contract and if he wants to move on, it won't cost much.
Martin Necas was crushing it in his point streak, but that's on a competent team. This team isn't competent.
The Necas you see in Carolina is completely different from the Necas you'd have seen in Montreal..
Pettersson on the Pens is an easy pass. Pending UFA and just makes the left side more f***ed.
Interesting but would require to move other pieces around.
And he would need to be interested in re-signing.

as much as we want to get rid of Dvorak he is a LHC and I can see Hughes holding onto him if he can't get a decent return. I think KH will prioritize whichever brings the best deal, instead of trying to move the worst contracts. Both Anderson and Gallagher aren't going anywhere either. I personally am a big Armia fan, but he has value for a contender so I think at least one of Armia/Barron/Savard/Evans/Primeau will be moved

Wasn't Petterson who the Penguins were offering Habs in the Petry trade, preferring in keeping Matheson? But Habs were adamant that if the deal is to be made, it would be Matheson coming the other way.
The Habs have the Pens 2nd round pick this year...maybe that's why Dubas was watching the Habs, he wants the pick back. But the Habs should really keep it, it will probably end in-between 33-37.

Unless it’s a UFA for UFA deal? Recall Dubas saying he’s looking to make like contract moves, to address areas of need for this years team, and will not rebuild as long as Crosby is under contract

The fact they have one retention slot available is what can limit what trades they make.
What works in Dvorak's favor is that he's a center. And teams always look for center depth for their playoff pushes. He's strong on the dot and is good on the PK. Teams value that. Now what HuGo need to assess is if it's more valuable to retain on Dvorak or Savard. I think Savard holds the most value and a retention on him might net the Habs a 1st Round Pick, whereas Dvorak, even with retention, won't.
And how sweet would it be heading into the draft with three 1st round picks?
There is also Evans that is going to be attracting teams. Much like Dvorak, he's good on the dot, good on the PK and a real good defensive forward. And his contract is much easier to move than Dvorak's. They probably don't even need to retain on Evans.

I'm not so sure about that. We have multiple second round and third round pick in both 2025 and 2026 draft. Having to many prospect at the same time is never a good idea. I can see Kent trading some of the second or third round pick to claim the draft or for a good veteran player.

Getting Crosby be ideal Habs. But like you, it's not happening. Suzuki is a great #2 center on championship team. But #1, I am not so sure.
Habs really need to add top 2 center to take step ahead. Dach and Newhook might someday but both have dropped the ball couple of times before. Beck is great but is he #2 center? Same as Kapanen, Hage is too far away to judge. He's had some injury issues also.
Crosby would have been super addition this summer especially with Demidov arriving. But not happening

In terms of ice time, he's their 3rd C. The kid f***ing stinks and has horrendous work ethic. I also thought he could be a good top 6 C but we were both wrong, it happens.
4.8 million for a player with a career high 43 points who doesn't even PK and had a catastrophic year last year is definitely a bad contract. Canes don't even want him but are forced to keep him because their center depth is a joke. Zero interest in him. At least Dvorak expires this year.

Yeah that's not realistic IMO.
I was wrong on him and I do think his work ethic sucks but he's still their 2C and has been doing well for them, he's well worth the 5m. He plays the 2nd most minutes of all forwards at 5v5. I mean, last year here started strong too and he massively crashed out so I'm not sure the trend continues but he is for all intent and purpose, a "good" player. 2018 is another very bad draft, kinda like 2022.

He's actually 4th in icetime for forwards at 5v5 but I don't even know why that's a relevant stat. He played 1 min less than Svechnikov, does that mean the Canes consider them to be equally valuable?
He's definitely not a good player and the Canes would obviously upgrade on their "2C" who was getting less than 13 minutes of ice time just last year. Is Dvorak that player? No of course not, but to say that they wouldn't trade their "2C" is incredibly disingenuous because he's not even close to being good enough for a 2C on a contender.
