He's become an absolute horror show defensively. It was never his finest trait, but oh boy, he's crashing hard. He was -5 in that shit show of a game against Dallas. He also has a full NMC & like 3 years on his contract. Huge pass.

Malkin would be amazing, or Pettersson.
Karlsson not much better. Watched Pitt game other night, he was terrible defensive. Out of position, never kept between his man and the net.

I feel like Malkin would cost way too much. Pettersson would be nice although he's another LHD and I think a contender goes for him instead. Wonder if Hughes regrets not taking Pettersson instead of Matheson in the Petry trade.

In other words, he won't mortgage the future.

It's not the same situation at all. When Bergevin was GM, we had the best goalie in NHL, a top scorer in Pacioretty, some quality two-way forwards upfront in Plekanec & others & a defense anchored by Markov & Subban. It was a team largely built by Gainey not Bergevin. When Bergevin decided to build "his" team is when everything collapsed.

At a time when Montreal needed some depth at center that yahoo Bergevin wouldn't part with Poehling or our 1st round pick for ROR. A player that might have pushed Montreal over the top into contending longer or winning a cup.

Eller is a 36 year old UFA who probably would prefer not to go to a team that's rebuilding, and is last in the standings. It is unlikely he would have much of an impact and we'd probably just end up trading him at TDL.

Hughes is pretty clear he would bring in veterans but he wants short-term contracts (ex. Laine).

Richard Rakell or Malkin would be more what we'd be looking for upfront. Rakell can play all 3 forward positions.

Most of Pens D are either UFAs or on terrible contracts (Karlsson, Letang & Graves), so no help there.

I mean we have the assets for Malkin. Calgary's 1st or our 1st (top 10 protected, whichever pick is best), return of Pens 2nd round pick, Vancouver's 3rd round pick, Dach, and a D or another forward - (not Demidov, Hutson, Guhle or Reinbacher. ).

He's only signed for one more year, though. I thought it was 2. He also has a full NMC.

I feel like that's a very expensive price for a 38 year old.

Probably a sideways move. Reimer was decent for Wings last year though.
Primeau for futures, pls god, oh pls!!! The experiment is over. Monty is way more reliable. Having Reimer could only be an upgrade.

We had Red light Racicot and now Prime Red Primeau.

Heck, we let Lindgren go who clearly wasn't as bad as Primeau. Look at Lindgren now....

It is, but we're not giving up anything we can't afford. If we give up our pick, we still have Calgary's, we have 2 seconds and 3 thirds. Malkin replaces Dach & by the end of next year hopefully Beck or Hage is able to help out. Malkin is here to mentor Demidov next year. What's the other asset would be, IDK. Struble? Heineman? Tuch?

We have a ton of assets that we can use and still have picks in every round.

Hughes is not giving up all of those assets for a 38 year old player

This needs to stop … it’s false. Friedman & cie have pointed out, Pegula gave his GM orders both ROR & Eichel were to be dealt outside of Eastern Conf

I wonder if Ekblad would be the kind of player targeted by HuGo this summer (theoretically speaking as there's a 1% chance of it happening). 29y UFA, RD with size. I'd be concerned about injury history and cap hit for 2nd pairing D but RD next year looks like it's gonna be even worse and it can't be solved with more RD rookies.

If somehow they re-sign Savard he should be there as 3rd RD, nothing more. Barron ain't it, Mailloux is a longshot as top4 because of his D, Reinbacher will be green. We've been saying it for a while but RD is an issue for the org and drafting Reinbacher isn't enough to solve it.

I suspect Dubas had talks with Eller who mentionned he (certainly) wouldn't be opposed to going back to Washington specifically. In other words, I doubt he's been offered to more than an team.

Pens all in on the tank then or what?
What a ridiculous organization thinking they could contend with 4 geriatrics for their core, 0 depth and 0 in the pipeline.
