They can't unless they find a taker for the current vets we have. We do have vets contrary to popular belief. They are just bad. If we add vets it must be to replace current vets and not remove kids from the lineup.
I don't care what they do as long as the add solid veterans that can play in key positions. We're just too green at every position if the goal is to progress.

The guy Id be after is Radko Gudas. Not sure if the Ducks need him right now but he'd fit in nicely.

According to Pagnotta, the general manager wants to acquire a top-four caliber right-shot defenseman to solidify the blue line, as well as a rugged, versatile forward who could be useful on the second or third line.

"Several reports surfaced last week that the Canadiens were in the market for a top-tier defenseman, while TFP's David Pagnotta first reported on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio that Hughes was also exploring the trade market for a gritty, wiry forward to add to the team's second or third line."

Something in place would refer to something already in the works. Bargainbin had no plan. If I'm rebuilding a car and keep the frame, its not a rebuild? It was a rebuild already in the process? No, a rebuild starts when the owner begins to strip down the parts need replacing and keeping what they can. An NHL rebuild doesn't need to move absolutely everyone in the organization. You assess you're roster and prospect pipeline and decide who does and who doesn't fit with the new direction of the club. Cole and Suzuki were still young enough to last through the rebuild window and would still be in their prime when the rebuild is over and transition to contending.

If you start with a 2010 Ferrari with 5000 miles it should take a lot less time to rebuild than a 1966 barn find.

Its a pretty simple concept, I'm not sure why people find this so hard to get.

The fact they kept key players tells us the rebuild should end faster than a true rebuild

Frederic might be available and he's a tweener, likely more of a 3rd liner, but the Habs aren't a good team so he might work on the 2nd

Even if you accept that premise as true. The fastest rebuilds to regular playoff contention is 5 years. We are two seasons out from that.

and weak. this team does not play hard on the puck
weak weak weak

teams see that and use that against them
we are very easy to contain at either end of the rink. I really think a line with Anderson-Laine-Dach would be very hard to manage for other teams

Why claim Max Jones when you could just call up Davidson or Tuch if you’re looking for physicality?

Max Jones is about as intellectually challenged of a hockey player as I’ve ever seen play, and that in itself is impressive, in a non positive way.
You don't want Laval to continue on a roll?

I wouldn't be surprised. By next year, he's likely not a top 9 fit. We have Laine, Caufield, Slafkovsky & Demidov as top 6 wingers next season. That puts Newhook on 3rd line.

I can't see him staying at center. He's a winger.
So Newhook, Dvo and Armia gone?

Slaf - Suzuki - Caufield
Laine - Dach - Demidov
Gallagher - Evans - Roy
Eineman - Kapanen - Anderson

We desperately need bottom 6 size and sandpaper

Plus we need more truculence on the bottom 6. He ain't it.

I think that you can only pencil-in these players for next season:

Slaf - Suzuki - CC
Laine - Dach - Demidov
XXX - Evans - XXX
XXX - XXX - XXX

I think that Evans will be re-sign. Obviously, Armia and Dvorak are gone.

Seeing how Gally is playing, I dont think KH would move him and it may be hard to move Anderson, but I dont think that any other guy are safe. So even with these two, you have room to improve the bottom 6.

Roy/Newhook/Heineman/Kapanen are all trade chips.

Good way to look at it. I don't think Andy/Gally are moveable , Evans will probably get moved if anyone. Still room for 4 more newcomers either way up front.
