It would take a hell of an overpayment and I don’t see why another team would want to do that.

You retain salary on guys you want to move, the Habs don't have to move Matheson.

Next year with 1yr left might be a different story or again depending on return on a retention deal.
Matheson will have a bigger value if traded this year with retention.

No point keeping Matheson as the team is still rebuilding. May as well take advantage of a great opportunity.

Yes and no, if you're a club with a need you can not fix internally, both are fine acquisitions. Otherwise yeah, you don't get either of them for a playoff run for sure.

Not sure anyone will want: Dvorak, Armia or Savard for a playoff run either.
Those 3 could be in the AHL and nothing would change in our lineup. We also only have 1 salary we can retain....

What is the minimum haul you would demand for Matheson or else not trade him?
The Habs are currently LOOKING for a top 4 Dman and are being told essentially “good luck, so is every other team”

Yet you got some Habs fans equating his value to Erik Gustafsson.

Wild world

Sure I don’t disagree in theory but the return has to equal the value and his value is not that of a PP specialist

To MTL: Carson Soucy & Kiefer Sherwood
To VAN: Mike Matheson & Joel Armia.
Soucy f***ing sucks.

Sherwood had f***ing 59 hits in 8 games. He almost triples the next closest on his team.

Dude is on track for over 600 hits. The Habs might reach 600 hits as a team.

I can't remember which poster, but when I posted my list of bottom 6 forwards and 13th forwards that would make the Habs harder to play against someone added his name.

1.5 mill, too. What a choice.

I know he's an asshoke, but when the Habs looked at DeAngelo before, was it Hughes, or dumbass as the GM ?

I'm just wondering as I wonder if the Habs bring DeAngelo back over for a chance to be a 3rd pairing RHD.

Yeah the trade is really Matheson for Sherwood, the other 2 are just patching holes.

I'd sign DeAngelo to a PTO, can't be much worst than Xhekaj... And really Xhekaj - DeAngelo as a pair looks scary.

TDA is just another guy that has some skill and put up points, but is a desaster in his own end, not really what the habs need.

Pretty much, now I'm wondering if we'll be able to get Liljegren's return for Savard (3rd & 6th)

I'd assume so. Leafs main goal was to free up salary to shore up at TDL. They took less value to make a trade now. SJ just claimed the opportunity like they did with Walman.

The reverse of Maata where Utah was hunting for a D (probably inquired about Liljegren and got told a higher price than what he got now).

Because the Blues are on their way down and the Habs up.
That is nice, but we are climbing from rock bottom and realistically we are not even close to playoff spot if you use the eye test. Next year with Demidov, we should be playoff team and we might attract so bigger fish, but we need to keep climbing. First 10 games did not look good.

sorry to burst your bubble but even with Demidov next season , we are not a playoff team at all.

No need to be sorry, it is basically what I am saying. We need organic growth from our young players and improvement of coaching. Replacing useless vets like Savard, Dvorak, Armia maybe even Anderson should help as well. If we cannot make it to playoff next year, something is fundamentally wrong and we are in big trouble.
