You might argue about the roster spot/contract slot but the team will have lots of cap space given all of the junk contracts leaving this year. There is $20M coming off with Byron, Drouin, Monahan and Dadonov gone, the only new expenditure is Caufield's new deal, let's say $7M more than his ELC.

If the team brought back everyone currently under contract the team has a full roster with about 10M cap space (presuming Price remains on LTIR). They are going to be bad again next year, so no need to buy Hoffman out and push his payout into the future.

Yeah, we have the cap space to carry him, but he's taking a roster spot I would prefer to go to someone else. His one year of dead cap is nothing considering cap is expected to go up $4m-$5m. This is the last season where we can take advantage of the tight cap. Hoffman buyout gives us a hell of a lot more space.

Chambly, Qc
depends on the assets
not really.

Paying anything for a guy who supposedly says he want to be here after next season is silly asset management. Use any assets you would have used to get him and use that for a goalie or RHD upgrade and he comes here as a UFA anyways right?

If he doesn't then he was clearly full of it and never wanted to be here.....

It is stupid to add a player for 1st round pick and prospects if you are not planning to win....just wait and sign him for free....so yes it is useless and stupid.
No. You will NEVER use all the assets we currently have, so you need to use those to your advantage. This board and picks that are better than established players LMAO. They refused to trade Peohling for ROR, how'd that workout for us? You pro pick and prospects people don't know how to build a team. It's a combination of everything, not just picks and prospects. Never works out.

Habs won't get PLD without giving back major assets its why wait till he's UFA and if he really wants to come he'll come.
Yeah, but that 8th year might be the difference between a 9 mill cap hit and 8.

Or maybe the Habs only want to give him let's say 8.5 and a team comes and offers him 10. Might lose him.

Can't play hard to get when someone actually wants to come here when they're a good player and not some over the hill Quebecois..

PLD is the guy I would be very Happy to acquire him via UFA Market at the right price. But no way Im gonna sold strong pieces (like first pick and ++) for acquire him. This is like Meier. Everyone would like him for free, but why giving up asset for him? This is won’t help our rebuild. If PLD isnt availlable, so be it, there will be another player. He isnt generational player. But yeah, he could be a great adddition when he is gonna be UFa

Oh well we don't need him if he gets greedy move on.

We have nothing to give Winnipeg for PLD
Nobody wants a Dvorak or Anderson for PLD
Those aren't major asset maybe Anderson could be part of a package but you'll need top end assets to get him and it would be dumb to do it.

Thinking it's the only place he want to come to is silly.
Getting him 8 years deal is what would bring the AVV down which matters for team building

If he go UFA and Florida or Tampa give him a 8.5M deal that would be worth 10.5M....on a 7 years deal it's 14M........you really want to make him think, or negotiate?

It took Pacioretty + a wainting period of 3 years to find a 60 points center in Suzuki.
PLD is a big center putting up 60-65+ points per season,......with all the Habs picks of that last 20 years, couldn't even find one.

Honestly Hoffman isn't that bad to have around the young guys. Confidence is everything for young offensive players so having a guy that can produce 20 goals is very helpful since it means the young guys get more points and build their confidence. We've seen in the past so many times a young player in the bottom six make a good play and nothing happens because the vet flubs it. At least Hoffman can convert on the chances that get created for him.

Just so your aware, he could’ve been signed to a contract since January. The silence around that tells me all I need to know. He may not end up with us but he’s definitely not staying with the jets
You put dead horses to bed! What are you? Sicilian.

Lol, either way, I’ll just be glad when the endless PLD speculation is over.

This guy can’t score 20. He gives the puck away. He doesn’t block shots. He doesn’t try to hit opposing players. Talent wise with his shot yes he should score 20+…

To me guys like Gallagher and Armia are better vets to have around the kids. If Hughes can clear up all other wasted cap space I got no issues with these two in the bottom 6 as leaders.

Your're right none of these players interest Winnipeg

But something around Florida's first #11 + Harris + Kidney could move the needle

I mean Debrincas as been traded for #7 in a weak draft ..

No it won't move the needle unless the Jets decide to sell off and rebuild in the off season. If not they need a centre of similar value to Dubois.

waste of assets
Dubois is such a good fit that I don’´t care the assets Habs could waste for him . The chances you get a player as good as him are very small. Then you can’t passe on him because you have to give the Florida first and some other player that won’t never as good as him . In extra, Dubois wants to play here

I wonder if the Oilers would do something around Gallagher for Campbell.

Gallagher costs more, but might be broken enough to not cost anything, but on the other hand, the Habs still have Price on LTIRetired.

He's not there to work hard and show the kids how to play the "right" way, he's there so that when the kid makes a nice pass for a one-timer it actually results in something. If you play offensive players with guys like Armia and Gallagher who can't even do a give-and-go then the kids will learn that they can't trust their linemates which screws them up when they do get a chance in the top-6 because they have to unlearn it before they can establish any sort of chemistry.

Perfetti could fill that role on that second line next year ..
Lowry on the third.
Then they have Lambert , Lucius as Center prospects.

Harris probably play top 4
#11 = Leonard or Yager , either way it's a kick ass prospect grade A
Kidney is having a crazy year like 95 points in 50 games , again a Center prospect.
