Like 5 days left, so what does DL pull out of the hat?

The safest bet is that DL picks up a veteran defensman for a non-roster player. I'm going to guess Liles for a 4th. Maybe a 3rd if salary is retained for another move. I'd like to see something bigger, but who knows how the market will play out.

I'll tell ya, figuring out what kind of wizardry DL can pull off is much more appealing than wondering what we are going to get for our aging vets at the deadline..

if Polak and a nobody got Toronto two 2nd round picks Im worried about what a decent Dman will cost this year. hopefully Dean doesnt splurge too much unless its worth the cost

Markov or Emelin just keep creeping into my Lombardi suspicion meter.

Maybe an Emelin/Weise combo... May not help Lucic wanting to resign.

Right now, GeneralFanager shows us with $2.4m cap space at the deadline.

Assuming that Greene ($2.5m) and Gaborik ($4.875m) are NOT going to return during regular season, does that mean we essentially have $9.775m of cap space for deadline acquisitions?

My understanding is that we are allowed to go over the cap by IR salary, so I think this is correct.

Can anyone confirm that I am understanding this correctly?

I'm guessing Hamhuis and Vrbata combo deal.

He's been utterly putrid this year but it could be a good gamble while his value is low. A low risk/high reward rental.

Wouldn't mind Matt Hunwick which would probably cost a 3rd in 2017 or 2018. Leafs have a ton of picks this year and like with the San Jose deal, are probably looking to add picks for future drafts beyond this season.

Conspiracy Tuesday came a day late this week.

Kovalchuk.

Has to be allowed by all 30 teams to come back, which is likely because he'll have to pass through waivers. TO's right at the bottom of the list. TO signs him then flips him for a 3rd, maybe a 2nd. This is right up TO alley as far as finding creative ways to get draft picks.

Lombardi did go after Kovalchuk in the past an may be looking for an off the board cheap/vet/rental for the playoffs.

Kings loss to the Oilers/TO loss to CAR puts TO in last place for waivers. Recall Ehrhoff!!!!

greene is already on LTIR (look further down) on general fanager so that space already include him.

Not sure how much we would get from gaborik as all the prorated crap makes it messy. All I know is LA has enough space to bring guys...it's the assets the team may lack.

You are correct.

It's a 2nd rounder next year, and a 2nd rounder two years from now. The Bruins got Rinaldo for a 3rd round pick in 2 years. Those future picks like that aren't worth the same as a pick this year. Look at last year with Sekera. Carolina has the Kings 1st this year, but it's looking like it won't be the same as last year's. They probably figured on that, but still, a pick in the 20's isn't as good as in the teens.

A 2nd round pick 2 years from now, who knows which pick it ends up, or who might even possibly be available to take. The nobody Toronto traded was himself a 2nd round pick. You can get a Nick Spaling in the 2nd round, or you can get a Shea Weber. You never know.

Yea it's something in the 7s for cap space, just Gaborik plus the 2.4. Not that it really matters, doesn't 2.5 million translate to like a 7M+ player?

not sure...all I know is the kings have enough room to add almost anyone. and anyone they can't retention/ cap the other way are always options

From LeBrun:

The Los Angeles Kings were looking hard at the market for the longest time, wondering what might make sense in terms of a defenseman. But a source suggested to me Tuesday evening that Kings GM Dean Lombardi has now decided the high prices on the thin rental-defenseman market may not be worth it. Which might be another way of saying Lombardi isn't enamored with either Dan Hamhuis or Kris Russell, the top two rental defensemen potentially available, or what it would take to get them.

It sounds like the Kings, aside from maybe a depth move on defense, might instead focus up front on picking up a winger to help fill the void left by the injured Marian Gaborik. One name I've heard that could be on the radar for the Kings is that of Edmonton Oilers pending UFA Teddy Purcell, although it's a deep rental forward list this year, so the Kings have lots to pick from if they do go after a winger.

I'm interested to see what happens with Justin Schultz. He's going to get moved.

He's been flat bad since he came into the NHL, but I wonder how much of it is the result of playing for the Oilers. I wonder if a fresh start with a well run, well coached team could reignite his potential.

I'm pretty sure you're joking. I am so, so glad this piece of garbage is rotting half a world away from our team.

I can't imagine DL sitting on this blueline, but whatevs.

I'm more worried about being in a situation where the teams AROUND us get Hamhuis etc., like when we took Sekera from Chicago last year (but I guess that worked out okay, haha).

If they pick him up, he has to stay on their roster (for 30 days I believe?). Otherwise would would prevent people from picking up every waiver asset and trying to flip them?
