Question is what do you see the Team doing this deadline?
(Not what would you like to see the Team do)

*** Perhaps a Mod can fix the Poll. You should be able to see who votes for which option. Thanks!

Safe to say goalies are not going anywhere. We will have to do with what we have
Gavrikov is enticing, since he's still young

We need to get a player that's still in his prime and can be locked in. Kind of like what Boston did with Lindholm ( what a steal that was both in players and dollar figure) F U Boston

We need that D who can play 20-24 minutes. Defense by committe is great if you are playing soccer

I think Dubas will try to bring in a 2LW, but probably not one of the biggest names kicking around right now. No Kane or Meier unfortunately.

I think he might even bring in a top four(ish) defenseman. Maybe someone like McCabe??

I think the Team would like to stand pat but will make some minor moves just to appease the fans and show they are going for it.

I want Luke Schenn and a capable third line Center that can move up to the top 6 (e.g., Toews at50% or Oreilly). I’d settle for Barbashev but that doesn’t answer the third centre.

I see him adding a top 6 winger and a top 4 dman. All in for Dubas, he knows he’s toast if this team doesn’t make some noise in the playoffs

Tarasenko and McCabe are my predictions

Either Option #3 or 4. Can't imagine #1 being the intention. Meanwhile, #2 should assuredly be out of the question as a standalone plan.

Question isn't what you want, we have lots of those threads.
What do you see them doing?

I think they’ll look into acquiring someone who can step into the third line role, play a solid two-way game and contribute on the penalty kill. Laughton is someone who comes to mind.

As OP stated, not what I want or believe they should do but what I think will happen: Dubas adds two players, a middle 6 forward and depth on the blue line.

Which, now that I think about it coincides with what I think they should do. No more 1sts going out the door or "all-in" kind of moves until this team proves it can win a few rounds. But they do need some scoring in the bottom 6 to have a prayer against Bos/TB and blueline injuries are a virtual certainty.

The question for me is, what scares me the most about facing Boston in a 7 game series and what is needed to get ahead of them? The answer is a bit of everything.

I'm not convinced that either of the current goalies with the Leafs could handle 7 games, let alone 20+. I think over the course of the playoffs, the defense will get exposed for being too undersized to handle 7 game series and I'm not sure if there is enough depth up front to get you scoring when it really matters.

The Leafs are a very good team and we know that they won't go anywhere unless the top guys show up. But I can't confidently say that Matt Murray or Ilya Samsonov will keep them in a series. The same question marks happened last year with Campbell and years ago with Andersen.

This is a really interesting question this season in particular.

Since we previously matched up against Tampa and got eliminated in the first round (again), what has changed? We've made tweaks to the bottom half of the lineup and swapped out goaltenders. I think we've moderately improved in net, but we're still not going to be the favourite between the pipes. Tampa has lost a few pieces, but they're still exceptionally good.

Couple that with the fact that many people think this is a bit of a "prove it" year for the current management group, and you'd think at least one significant move would be coming.

Put a gun to my head, and I think we probably add a top six forward.

Which is great and mentioned in many other threads but that doesn't address the question asked here.

The squirrels will be along soon enough to take it off topic, lets try and keep it on topic as long as possible.

I want Jonathan Toews. If we are going to try and get O'Reilly we might as well get the Toews who is been healthier and will cost less. Imagine having Matthews, Tavares, Toews, Kampf down the middle. We don't have to put that pressure on Tavares or Matthews to take a late game draw.

Then maybe add Luke Schenn on the back end. So in short,

Toews and Schenn and then sign Knies

So i think they add a depth defenseman and a 3rd Line Center, I don't think they go all in.

They had better be all-in. The window is open. When that happens, you have to go for it. That's the only way this works.

Go big with a 1st and Knies for Chychrun. Or do a 1st for ROR or Tarasenko. But don't cheap out with just Luke Schenn or something. Go big.

Personally, that's kind of what I'm hoping for, because then surely Dubas would be shown the door with hopefully Shanahan right behind him.

Again, not about hopes. What do you think they will do?

Yep. I voted all-in. Paying a 1st rounder or more, getting a top 6 forward or a top 4 D (or both or beter).

I voted other. I think they would like to go all in and might be able to grab either a top 6 LW, or maybe a top 4, but the price is going to be steep and doubt they will spend tge assets to get both.

When I look at what we need to really compete for the cup, the truth sort of hurts.

We need:
3rd Centre
2LW
Top 4 Dman

We do not have the cap or trade capital to make it happen.

Then hope our goalies hold up.

Brad Marchand said it best
"If you look at our team in the past, guys have tried to take less to win because we know that it bleeds through the lineup," Marchand said. "If you can have six guys that make lower salary other than three it's a lot harder to play against and that's why we've been good for so long."

Until this is fixed Leafs are going nowhere,

Minor stuff to try and win a round.

If Dubas signs an extension I think he’s going to make some major changes going forward.
