  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.

Barring a serious injury, his value will be pretty strong 3 months from now.
He's already at 29g, 53p.
Like the nagging one he had last year? It’s not exactly out of the realm of possibility.

It’s also not just dependent on his play. The market will not be the same as it was today. A lot of teams are going to change their minds on guys, contract talks will go sour, teams will make guys available to chase UFA’s. I do not believe Rakell will ever have as much value as he did today.

I also don’t think we’re going to trade him period. This organization is delusional enough to think they can turn this thing around while Rakell is still here.

T
Dumbo a double agent? We PAID to take some garbage to help the leafs clear cap space??

Timmins isn't garbage. He played some good games with Toronto but was the odd man out partially because of injury issues.

He has a decent shot that he doesn't use enough, but will block shots, has decent mobility, and some size. Plus he's only 26 and a rfa.

If dubas didn't use up a retention spot to help Toronto I have no problem using like a 6th rounder or something to take a flier on a young-ish defender for a defense that is going to have some open spots in the off-season.

I would've gladly taken a conditional 2nd that could turn into a 1st as the only return for Rakell.

He's 32 in May. Injury history. And a goal scorer. He's the most streaky asset you can think of entering an age when he likely won't do it. And he has 3 more years left.

People really underestimate the likelihood that this isn't a total rebuild and that they are going to try to compete next year. Use the $25M in cap space and the 1100 draft picks and go big game hunting this offseason both via free agency and trade. I think that's WAY more likely than this being year one of a five-year rebuild.
I mean, Dubas has outright said what it is and what it isn't. Anyone still not aware of this does not watch pressers or reads articles.

Or maybe Dubas wasn't offered the young NHLer he wanted for Rakell? Crazy thought.
Then Dubas really sucks at negotiating. It was a big time sellers market (based on most of the returns we saw) and there was supposedly heavy interest in Rakell from multiple teams. If he couldn’t talk one of those teams into a 1st and a young NHLer or prospect in this climate then he’s a pretty terrible negotiator

A mid ass deadline from Dubas.

Getting a couple 2nds and 3rds for the players is good.

But once again, he's not choosing a direction and trying to play both sides.

Those who say we are "fully rebuilding" have no legs to stand on.

Not moving Rakell is an insanely dumb decision.

Also, he had to go and grab some of his old Toronto guys.

C+/B-
This has to be a bit at this point.

It's... a lot, yeah. One would think the odds are pretty overwhelming that they can hit on SOMETHING with all that. A braindead golden retriever with a draft board could probably get something done with all that. And Dubas seems pretty decent at the draft.

But we'll see. Those seconds and thirds are still seconds and thirds and this is the NHL not the NFL. Those are very low percentage picks though I'm not really complaining because again... and I want to really emphasize this... Cody Glass is no longer on the roster.
I think a 2nd is around 17% and a 3rd 13% or something.

I’m not getting bent out of shape about not moving Rakell unless…the reason is more of this competing sooner than later crap. There’s no way we compete for anything the remainder of his contract.

Why can other teams get young close to the NHL and top prospects for their good players, and we can’t? Unless our GM is incompetent…
Pretty sure Koivunen is the AHL rookie scoring leader. Outscoring Nadeau...just sayin.

No, Carlo just went for a first and a top prospect and he has another year or two left, Rantanen sign and trade…Tampa took a player with one year left after this…
Rantanen was a UFA. Carlo is a defenseman. You believe these are the same thing.

You're comparing apples and carburetors.

@Gurglesons we talk on discord, I agree with some of your takes and ideas.

PLD for example.

I don't take sides in everything but do you just have a hate thing for Dubas?

He did pretty darn good at this deadline / year.

You and anyone else can be right that picks are a lottery and may not amount to a lot.

But a couple of these 2nds/3rds will hit and that's all we gotta hope for.

How is a B- / C+ not a good ranking?

Or other teams didn't want to trade an asset on par with Clarke or Nadeau for Rakell?

I still haven't gotten an answer for why Dubas should have just caved and taken whatever other teams were willing to offer when they can just trade Rakell in the future.

Yeah, I mean, there's a shot Rakell keeps up this level of play and production with top minutes and top power play time. But like others have pointed out, we're a year removed from the dude being an anchor.

Given his age and Sid's, it's no sure thing he'll be playing like this a year from now. And if he is, the 2026 draft seems to be much more well regarded than this one, so odds are low you're gonna have teams slinging around 1sts, even later ones.

Right so your opinion on this one can be discounted pretty much off the bat

I wonder how many people who are saying “don’t worry, Rakell’s value will not decrease in 3 months” were also complaining that he was an albatross 7 months ago. We seem to forget how much people hated his contract before this year.
What happens if *gasp* Sid's play falls off?
