With as many high round picks the Penguins have acquired at the deadline, I'm not moving Rakell for a package where the primary piece is a 1st.

A young NHLer or top prospect with clear top-6 F or top-4 D upside should be the centerpiece. If they're not getting someone like Greentree or Lamoureux, tell other teams to piss off. Dubas should not accept a package that doesn't have a Callum Ritchie caliber asset.

I don't even think they need to trade Grzelcyk, just either him or Acciari.

If they move one more guy, it's a B+. If they move both Grzelcyk and Acciari, it's an A- deadline. If they move Rakell as well, it's an A++++ deadline.
I won't argue grades, but if he moves Acciari, Heinen, etc... but keeps Rakell/Rust/EK, I will at least say "i see what the plan is, and if you continue on this specific path, I understand what you're doing" which is all I can ask

We also still have like 14 mil in salary space now. Just in case if we wanted to take on some salary to add more picks/prospects.

Current top-3 round draft picks:

-2025: 2 1sts, 1 2nd, 3 3rds
-2026: 1 1st, 3 2nds, 2 3rds
-2027: 1 1st, 2 2nds, 2 3rds

For all of the "Dubas isn't rebuilding" claims, he's sure as hell acquiring a ton of draft picks.
If Sid is playing another 2 seasons, there's probably just 1 or 2 players in there that will play in the Crosby era. Most of the 3rds won't be NHL ready before 2030!

Meh. I get people being disappointed if Raks doesn't go considering the market is zany.

But I dunno. Tossing a whole bunch of absolute bilgewater over the rail and somehow getting something of value back while actually keeping a good player isn't exactly the end of the world, either.

Yeah like I think it's unlikely, but this team has 17 top-3 round picks in the next 3 drafts. If you clear out the shitty depth guys and hit on a couple of young guys that give you quality depth, suddenly you're not looking to be as far away from contention as you thought you would be.

This is especially true if you manage to flip some of those picks for other good young NHLers.

All these Pens trades and they still have their 3rd retention spot open. Gotta be saving it for something right

I'm really surprised they got a 2nd and 4th for Schenn without retaining on him.

If Dubas can’t get a great return for Raks at these prices, he’s failed … got nothing to do with anything else…sorry not sorry

I just need Grz gone I can’t keep trying to remember how to spell that name

lol I always try to abuse spellcheck like I do with everything else and feed it utter nonsense like "Gryzahlickgabbagabbahey" or whatever and furrow my brow when it just shrugs at me every time.

To be honest, I don't hate this for Carolina. They didn't seem that high on Necas and he seemed to be moving sooner than later. Necas, Drury and a 2nd for Stankoven and 2 1sts doesn't look too bad on paper for them.

Still an hour and a half to trade Rakell. Not confident but we'll see. Totally agree with Emp that with the influx of picks, the focus should shift to a high value young guy like a Clarke, Greentree, Ritchie, or whatever else may be out there.

The price for RR is really higher than many thought. He is now the only top 3 winger up for grabs. Yep, Dubas can sit back and hear the offers and be in a great position. He doesn't have to move RR as his value will be really high in the off season as well. Top 3 winger at AAV of 5 in a rising cap is attractive as hell.

I think it’s unlikely he’ll play with any of them besides maybe this years first if we draft in the top 5.
