So Laughton goes for 3 million AVG over 5 years.

Iaffalo 4 million AVG over 4 years.

But Hyman is going for 5-5.5 million AVG?

Today if anything is a win for the Leafs big time. They have just secured Hyman's services for a deal between what Laughton and Iafallo got that includes a hometown discount. Huge for the future of the Leafs!!!

We may not acquire anyone else today but these other deals made Dubas's day.

No, I think Hyman goes for about 4.5 to the Leafs... As I've said numerous times in this thread. He's significantly better than both Iafallo and Laughton.

I think the Hyman could start with a 5 on the OPEN MARKET if he test free agency, in an expansion year. That's what I said.

I think people are silly to think that Hyman isn't woth roughly 500k more than Iafallo.

We are talking about 2021 draft here where there is 1 guy at top of draft up for grabs which is why Steve Y is creating such a sh*t about reducing teams who can get Power ... after that it is pure dog sh*t .. in Ontario maybe maybe maybe outside of Power 1 guy may play in league ... likely worst draft in history of pro hockey ... no one is getting very much for a 2021 1st round pick because everyone knows it sucks .. very very probable less than 10 guys in total lace em up in this entire draft

Well maybe look past the top 10 of a draft? Same reason why people hyped up the 2020 draft as being one the best when it was absolute trash after like the top 13. The top 10 is not amazing this year. The number 1 guy is probably not going to be the best one out there. Good news is that we are not going to be picking in the top 10 this year.

There is a good chance that Aatu Raty would have fallen to our 1st. Consensus 1st overall pick in this draft all of last season. Not having the best year this year but still has a ton of upside. Sebastian Cossa is a potential franchise goalie who has been pegged to go in the late 1st, but may have raised his stock too much. Ben Gaudreau is another potential franchise goalie out there, but he hasn't played yet this year. He will be playing in the U18 tournament and almost certainly will be the starter. Corson Ceulemans is a PPG+ defenseman in the AJHL. A bunch of Swedes are there that are better than any of the Swedes last year. Matthew Coronato has almost a 2PPG and GPG in his DY in the USHL, and there are a bunch of high end USDP guys in that range (USDP is far better this year than last year). There are a bunch of WHL guys who look like they could be fighting to be in that range too, but they are just getting started. Bolduc/Bourgault/L'Heureux/Huckins/Whynot from the QMJHL.
Some of the OHL guys like Chayka and Pinelli are doing well overseas.

There is a lot more variability and depth across all player types and positions this year. People may have written off this draft, but I have looked at it and in the spots we are drafting it is better than last year. I wouldn't be shocked if you can get multiple Amirov, Sandin, Liljegren, or Robertson level prospects in that 1st round range. Not sure the depth really holds up into the late 2nd round all that well yet (I would need to see more out of the OHL guys, because there were a lot of OHL guys ranked in that range before this season) but you can probably find another Niemela or Hirvonen in that range again based on what I have analyzed.

Not happening.

Yeah, When I was in uni, I’d skip the day of classes, grab beers, and enjoy the show. It was more exciting then. The cap created parity, and put a dagger in deadline day. Just not worth using a day off at this point

Ah yes the good old days, i used to do the exact same thing and then go play some NHL.

Haven't done that in a few years, keeps getting progressively more boring.

Here's hoping for next year we do it for old times sake lol.

If they were the same age and Iafallo also took a discount, then maybe. Iafallo is almost 2 years younger and it does not look like he took a discount. That factors in a lot.

Iafallo / Laughton extensions a good sign for Hyman's next contract, even if he costs a little more/longer than them.

I can see Hyman taking a team friendly deal. He plays with a lot of great players and has the luxury of a well-off family. I agree with your point though about him being a quality player. This is a rare case though of money may not be a factor moreso winning a cup with his hometown team / playing with a team he grew up with.

First post!

Would not be against a move or two like that Soderberg trade to add depth to our roster. Nothing prospects for solid depth guys are more the kinds of moves the Leafs should be making.

Congrats, and a good point overall too!

As I've said, I'll be here to eat a large helping of crow when Hyman signs for this magical 3.75 million dollar deal that some here think he will. A guy who has paced for nearly 60 points the past two seasons and has continued to get better every single year since he became a mainstay in the lineup.

I'm going to stick with 4-5 × 4.5 until I hear otherwise. I'll jump for joy if it's even 4.25.

It will be weird if we don’t pick up a depth D. An inexperienced Sandin/Lily or sub-optimal Rosen/Marincin would have some real trouble if we make it to conference finals and run into injuries

I think Hyman will sign between 4 to 4.5 for 4 to 5 years

if we do not deal kerfoot now; then kerfoot goes to seattle with a sweetnet (pick or dermott I think); free up cap space to get Hyman deal done and add from UFA to fill in kerfoot's role.

Sandin replaces Dermott
Lily replaces Bogo

Rielly Brodie
Muzzin Lily
Sandin Holl

So are we done? Not expecting anything else right

Well, if you go off one reporters logic. We either need to make a move to clear cap for Andersen when he comes back OR we know he's not coming back by playoffs and we have the LTIR cap to play with.

And since we got Riddich in leaning towards the latter, which means, we should be making another move. I think depth D or scoring support.

Only 3 meaningful trades today.... Soderberg to COL, Kulikov to EDM and Gaudette to CHI
