Not sure who they bring and will be ready but I guess when the dust settles uts ready or not here they come...probably Nyman first or Winterton since he's been here before and Nyman for Size and scoring prowess for a 20 year old...Firkus the Circus in another years time if he keeps progressing and what about Sprong he's been the good Soldier and still has value...I will say, with all these moves starting to happen, our prospects better come good. Analysts have like our drafting, so hopefully it translates. I'm also guessing this is why Bylsma was brought in, to help with the AHL to NHL transition.
Tanev off the team tonight for trade purposes.
I like our GMFrancis and hope the Kraken ownership doesn't think he's not doing a good jobA side benefit might be a higher draft choice this year as the team will be less competitive without Bjorkstrand and Gourde.
Be surprised if this is some sort of swan song for RF. Why would ownership give a departing GM the power to make this kind of trade? Doesn't make sense.
Guess we will have to hold our collective breath come free agency. Think there is a better than 50/50 chance we do something that is counterproductive. Hope I'm wrong.

Yeah. I would be shocked if Tanev gets anything better than a 3rd round pick to be honest. Even at 50% retention. Though, GM's can be pretty silly during TDL's.Hoping at least they can get near immediate help by trading Tanev, but not sure his trade value is that high.

My guess though is that they will look to get more "immediate" help in the off-season. Either trades or signing one of the big-fish forwards if they are available. Though I am really hoping they don't go out and go something stupid.
I would be less upset at them throwing money at Rantanen (or even Marner) than if they just signed another middling tweener.

What a surprise
I think we'll get a pick for Tanev and that's it.
If things go really well it could be a 2nd rounder but it's most likely going to be a 3rd.
I hope so too but Francis comments indicate they'll "go for it" once again even though this team is nowhere near doing anything in this league.
They should have learnt from the ridiculous Stephenson mistake but hey ho, why not double down on a losing idea... ?!
Has a team ever went from being in our position to magically contending/winning the next season? The only way I could ever see that is if it was prospects that were elite and day 1 ready joining the team.I think we'll get a pick for Tanev and that's it.

The RIGHT fits can certainly work. Guys who can really drive plays and score, but the two big names available are both playing alongside guys that are among the best in the entire world at that, and I’m not sure have shown a similar level of impact without their counterparts. I’m generalizing and acknowledge both are great players, are far better than what we have ever had, but will they be AS good in our system with our players? Not just that, but I doubt we will win the bidding war.
You pay the big money for guys who can drive play and score, not their sidekick wingers. Elite C or D UFA is fine if the fit is right on your roster. But gambling on UFAs to in order to put lipstick on a pig that's dead in the water for marketing reasons is nuts.
As you say I doubt they have any interest in Seattle whatsoever, which only means the Kraken will have to overpay like mad on top of already crazy UFA prices if they want to catch their interest.

That's sort of what I'm getting at. I just don't see a way forward unless Francis' plan is to turn those picks into trading pieces. I just don't see a good way forward with overpaying wingers, that never works and like you say, they probably aren't going to be drawn to play for Seattle anyway.
The facts are, while we know how great of a city it is, and that it has no state income tax, most of these players grew up far away and Seattle doesn't exactly have a reputation as a great place to live for people with loads of money, like say, LA and Florida, where the "lifestyle" is perceived to be better (we, and some of the richest dudes in the world ALL know better though). It also doesn't help that the NHL is so strongly built on history and so few places have it. If you've BEEN good a lot, good players will want to play there. If you don't have a history of being good, it's not quite the same. Well, we sure as hell don't have much of a history at all, much less of a history of being GOOD. FFS! It's an uphill battle.
If I'm a big shot Canadian (or otherwise) hockey superstar, I'm almost certainly not even seeing Seattle as an option when I'm sitting around at my house with my super hot wife talking about where SHE wants me to play. I'm not saying "what about Seattle" unless she's from the area. So... which players have super hot wives from Cascadia? That's who we target. That's probably our only "in"
Success cure all with regards to most of that. No one wanted to go to the Seahawks for years. Players like Brian Bosworth even didnt want to go there when drafted. In the prime Pete Carroll era it became a desirable place though. Facilities, culture, income tax and all. We are never going to be LA or NY or in hockey Toronto. Luckily Seattle isn't some hick armpit of a place though and for West coast Canadian players not far from BC/Alberta. I'm assuming it was a struggle for the Florida teams for years as well before the success. Just need a few seasons of making the play offs but we are likely going to have to do it with a young core we've developed. That's sort of what I'm getting at. Fuhrious i like your takes but could you lay off? This is a message board we’re here to have fun. Could you ignore him if you don’t like his posts? Thanks man again i appreciate you and your contributions!“Sprong has been a good soldier” lmao
Pass around whatever it is you’re smoking, please.

I'm not thinking that Marner to Seattle makes sense, give how risky I expect the price tag to be, but he's absolutely in the "drives play" category. He's carrying the puck up ice with Matthews coming in as F3 behind him. He could add 20 goals to whatever Shane Wright would be scoring. Wright is usually an F3 center as well.
I think Seattle has a lot of advantages as a city and is a highly marketable destination for players as a city. But until the team is fully committed to winning now (which we can't credibly do without rebuilding a bit), it's not going to matter. Florida and Tampa were not destinations when those teams were bad.
I think we need to start a long run operation around this - get the young women on it!
Fair enough. Panarin is another winger who also drives play but... signing him derailed the NYR rebuild. He is (was) good enough to push the Rangers into the playoff picture almost by himself... but in the end that meant the Rangers became also rans instead of contenders. They never had the opportunity to build a real core, i.e. a team capable of beating the true heavy weights, but went in half-cocked just to make the playoffs and earn money for the MSG.
It is that destiny the Kraken need to avoid, especially now that they do have THE golden opportunity not to follow that tired old script by virtue of being fresh as a newborn babe.
Francis said that "they will not draft nine players" with the picks they just got. I mean, that is totally sane - use some of those picks and prospects from the large pool to make real hockey trades, nobody is objecting to that. With that abundance of picks the Kraken might even aim for an RFA or two they particularly like and offer sheet them (...it happens see Holloway and Broberg). Be creative, have a plan and a vision and don't do stupid things...
