1. Sometime in September
2. No idea why they haven’t updated it
3. Yes. Became a free agent after the 2019 season. Signed with Arizona in February and was released in May. Still a free agent.
4. Yes. Pitched 1.1 innings, struck out 3. Have great stuff. Has potential to be a high leverage reliever. Has 4 pitches. You will likely see him this weekend.
Thanks very much!

f*** 8th, I want 2nd in the division

Yankees have 10 players on the IL, 6 being all stars.

With a competent manager we beat Tampa 3 more times this year which puts us in 1st.

If the Jays don’t get hit with injuries, Montoyo doesn’t get in the Jays way, and they keep their play up then 1st in the division isn’t out of the question.

The odds are against them but no one is running away with this division.

The fully healthy lineup of

C Jansen
1B Vlad
2B Biggio
SS Bichette
3B Shaw
LF Gurriel
CF Grichuk
RF Hernandez

isn't a world beater by any stretch, but has the virtue of having an at least decent bat in every position.

Similarly, the pitching staff is a horde of pretty good guys with a few standouts. They've finally succeeded at raising the floor on the team, although the bench hitters are still weak.

What's great is next year Groshans or Martin can replace Shaw, and maybe Martin, if ready, can make a push if Hernandez or Gurriel falters.

I’ve never sided one way or the other with umps or robots, but this season each umpire has their own “strike zone” to an extreme degree. I think it’s time for robot umps to call balls and strikes. It would be interesting to see what consistent calls for a consistent strike zone does for Biggio’s obp :)

After watching the TSN special about officials last year, there is no consistency to the robot umps either.

Agreed, didn’t think he would make it to the majors let alone be this dominant.

Guy had the deck stacked against him and he is doing well. Jays fans mocked him for being the return for their former MVP in Donaldson: so he has that pressure on him.

Coming off major injuries. Limited time in the minors and with this development staff. No spring training and little in game experience and he comes in throwing well. Not a bad start.

Groshans and Martin are still at least a year away, AA is the highest either would start next year if things are back to normal. The only higher end hitting prospect that's somewhat close is Kirk for next year.

I’m sure the technology is still very new, but quickly evolving. Give it a year or two and it’ll be perfected.

Looks like KLaw has chosen to die on his Biggio hill. This is from his chat last week:

Thomas: HI Keith; First off, thanks as always for these chats. Curious about your thoughts on Charlie Montoyo as a manager so far. I was really excited by his hire, and while anecdotally I think his bullpen management has been fine, his batting orders (moving hot guys down in the order so that the top of the order can bat with men on base) and bunting in extras with the new rule are just a couple of the things that I’ve noticed that seem very anti-Rays.

Keith Law
: Agreed. I’ve been surprised at some of his outdated in-game tactics. The fealty to Biggio, who hasn’t performed this year and gets overmatched by velocity, is weird – he shouldn’t be leading off just because he draws walks, not when his OBP is below the league median.

Low risk, high reward trade at the time and now. Calculated move.
If (big if) he can stay healthy, then the team gets a big arm through his prime years....cheap.

That’s a nice wave of three good young hitters to compliment the core.

The "moral victories" line is nonsense, and not the way the team should be comporting themselves, but man do we not look outmatched against a supposed elite team. Essentially every game could go any way, and in a building we always shit the bed in.

Yep. There's literally been one game this year that they weren't in up until the final at bat (the blowout to Washington). They've been remarkably competitive given their inexperience, huge question marks all over, and some key injuries.

They're a pretty good, really fun team that will frustrate you quite a bit. I'm perfectly happy with that right now.

Yeah thats the one bad thing about this season is that Groshans and Martin are probably delayed an entire year from getting to the Jays. Probably looking at 2022 when it could have been 2021

edit - I just noticed Vladdy has really struggled vs lefties this year, batting only .167

This would be my lineup today

1. Gurriel Jr.
2. Biggio
3.Hernandez
4. Grichcuk .417 vs lefties this year.
5. Tellez -.357 vs lefties this year
6. Vlad
7. Shaw
8. Espinal
9. Jansen

I doubt prospects will be delayed too much based on the lost season because it's a league wide thing. There will be more uncertainty around them though, for sure.

For example, if the plan was for Groshans to have half a season in A+ and half a season in AA this year and open 2021 in AAA, I could see them starting him in AA and promoting him to AAA (where they wanted him to be anyway) if he plays well for a month or two.

Strasburg our for the rest of the season with carpel tunnel syndrome. Getting surgery. Not that it’s career ending but man are pitchers a gamble.

Espinal kinda makes John McDonald look like a prime Tulo with the bat. I think he is awful, but hopefully he gets better. I understand he is not there for his bat, but still.

What exactly does our taxi squad do? Just batting practice and a little fielding practice? Intrasquad games? It would be cool for Sportsnet to make a little tv episode on it, I'd like to see ehat Martin and co are up to.

He's had 25 major league PA to this point and was always an above average hitter in the minors. He'll adjust and improve.
