Exactly. I can guarantee we did not have the assets to pull this trade off.

That Treliving would part with.

It would actually be smart to sell…I will say this, the Shanaplan has been a disaster. Marner holds all the cards. Sure stand pat but now Mitch knows he has all the leverage. The Leafs are literally like 3 years away from possibly having to blow this thing up. The playoffs was always going to be a huge sign on the future of this core group. Looks like Treliving doesn’t trust it enough to pay the price. If we get another first round elimination Shanny has to go though. Enough is enough. And if Shanny goes what about Treliving? You want this ass clown running a rebuild? Brad doesn’t even have the balls to complete a Luke Kunin trade for piss sake. All we hear is “we’re looking to get better” ok but how? Like what’s the plan with this organization.

You actually think they're obligated to tell you their plans?

Personally there’s not a trade adding to the team that gives me confidence the core will figure it out in the playoffs. So I’m happy to keep the assets in keep for an overdue retool.

Never a bad thing to have picks and prospects around the draft when prices are more reasonable

I guess if the team has as many issues as we talk about in a gdt then it's probably best they don't get in an arms race with teams who have already won (Tampa, Florida, Vegas, Colorado) or teams are have made it far (Dallas) and keep to the sidelines.

I guess for me is the frustration is that Tre is terrified to take any risk or make an upgrade. I've said for years now, the Leafs should operate like the Yankees but they act like the Marlins. Always reactionary. Always scared.

Just because you think it, doesn't make it true.

Maybe he is just smart enough not to make deals that he thinks will ultimately hurt the team (ie. Knies for Rantanen with no extension signed).

Lol, I appreciate that you're looking at it from a positive perspective but I don't think that's it at all.

I think GMBT is sticking to his reputation of being a meek GM especially at the deadline and then eventually adding a random useless AHL calibre player.

And he will end up re-signing both Marner + JT at inflated values, regardless of what happens in the playoffs.
I really think that's what it is man. It has nothing to do with looking at it from a positive perspective. I really think that he's basically telling them "put up or shut up"

And as for your last paragraph. There's absolutely no f****** way he re-ups both of those guys if they lose in the 1st round. Not a f****** chance.

If they do walk for nothing then it is addition by subtraction and they have a shitload of money to spend in the summer, money that could completely remake the team.

Or completely ruin it.

Do you trust Treliving with cap space? I'd look at some of the big signings he's done in Calgary.

We could probably take the last two big signings he did for free, they might even pay us.

That's what we said the last three years and yet here we are

No depth and a defense being held by a 65 yr old tanev

Honestly, this is not the year to go *all in* anyway. With Matthews hurt and barely playing like a 1C, expecting him to show up in the playoffs and take the team on a deep run in just silly. Better luck next season.

Maybe this year everyone will be healthy, no concussions, no high ankle sprain, no migraines, no fractured wrist ...

Of course they do, ffs.

Or completely ruin it.

I trust him more than Spreadsheet Dubious.

I was going to mention that earlier. They might get out of the first round, but that is it and within a week of their season ending he'll go under the knife.

Yeah I do think they’re obligated to tell their fan base what the plan is. And I don’t mean just saying “we’re trying to win the cup!” Ok how? Like some sort of inside of their thought process. I know the prices are high but this team is a mess right now and we have 2 players who are UFA’s who could walk for nothing. So yeah I’d like to know what Treliving’s actual plan is
