Post-Game Talk: Trade Deadline Day: March 7, 2025: Montreal stands pat

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.
Sigh - we are going to do nothing. Then the talking heads will say this is a vote of confidence in our current group. Morale booster.
Any different from the previous management? The ownership is still the same and the team is still pretty much reverting to the same excuse lines.

We want to send a positive message, so we aren't trading any upcoming ufas for a better future and we are also not getting better to help the team for a playoff spot

But in 3 months Hugues will tell us why Dvorak Armia and Savard are not coming back.

Just ice Suzuki, Caufield Hutson 45minutes every games
I wish we would have goten more assets to be active this sumer. We are potentially one Demidov not panning out away from a failed rebuild. KH did not stick to the plan and i think it's a mistake.

If I'm a GM of another team in the league, I have near zero confidence that Armia or Dvorak could even improve my 4th line. Why bother if you're them?

Savard I do think he's got some value, but I don't think we're talking a 1st.
Armia would improve a lot of teams 4th line and PK due to his size and his play along the boards. Teams need players like this to do the grunt and dirty work and when Armia is on his game he's very good at what he does.

Such an underappreciated player by far too many who only seem to look at his scoring stats and not his entire game.

So we keep him then!

Why is Brady crying? Because they were very close friends apparently.

Why don't I like Cozens on the Sens? Because I think he's going to end up better and meaner than Norris and Cozens will be annoying to play against for the next 7 years.

At the same time it’s about rewarding the players that have worked their asses off to get the Habs in this situation.

It’s also about rewarding the fans after having to watch 4 years of dogshit hockey.

All we ask for is a centre so you don’t run our captain to the ground.
And they'll get one, but in the summer

Like i was trying to say, its all about timing right now, and right now is not the time to work at making such an important trade with the leverage against us

Both have one good season, but Kovacevic is a big RHD defenseman. I see the 5 years as a positive, he's almost 28, he will be 33 years old at the end. Kovacevic is like a fine wine, he will be better with the experience.
Carrier had a bad 2022-2023 season but has been good ever since (except for his play with the Preds this year which he's made up for with his performance as a Hab). Kovacevic has been a #7 dman and couldn't consistently crack a poor defense core last year. What makes you think Kovacevic suddenly became a top 4 dman when both the Jets and Habs didn't think so? He's had his first good NHL season at 27 years old, that's not aging like fine wine.

Despite the lack of action from Habs, it could be worse.
We could be the canes, never change, what a joke of a franchise lmao

So Hugues claims to believe in his players so he doesn't trade anyone (we know he could have received at least 2 second round picks for Savard and Armia) but he doesn't improve his team or that of the Rockets who need it (given the injuries).

not sure what people were expecting?

Now that Evans is re-signed, other than flipping Armia/Savard for a 2nd/3rd and maybe Dvorak for a 3rd/4th. What did you think was on the table? A hockey trade? Not gonna happen today.
Yes, flipping Armia and Savard for a 2nd each. Unless you think NHL GMs are run by the mainboard, Habs players don't inherently have less value than comparable players. I think people understand that Dvorak has no value, so of course, there's no point in trading him, but Armia and Savard are no-brainers.

I wouldn't mind the inaction of Dach was playing and was playing better than he was. But the gaping hole at 2C could use even a modest upgrade and it would really help the team out. Hughes knows better than me though I'm sure haha

I think that’s shitty to be honest. We aren’t even playing Laine and Newhook because we don’t trust their centre. And we will just do 20 more games of that? It’s shitty for everyone on that team.

It's objectively the right move.

Not good enough to trade futures for help now but the team is doing well enough not to gut them.

Staying in a playoff race is worth more than a late second or third for Armia and Savard.
