I think he meant the use of the term: "back catcher." There is no such position in baseball. Thole is a catcher.

Got it and I knew that. Seems like a silly thing to whine about, to each their own.

Most likely one of the bull pen guys goes back down once Barney comes back. That is a lot of pitchers. There has to be like 18 of them, including a 6 man rotation and a 12 man bull pen.

I think Goins sticks around, and Thole will probably come back too. I wouldn't have minded seeing how someone like Montero or Tellez did either, considering EE may leave.

????

It's Sept. 1. Rosters have expanded to 40 men. Nobody has to be sent down when Barney returns. In addition, the Triple A season ends in a few days. There is no place for anybody to be sent down shortly.

Are you seriously suggesting they play Montero or Tellez during a Sept. playoff push?

I didn't see it as whining. I saw it as: "who is the moron writing headlines over there?"

The "nails on the chalkboard" seemed a little over dramatic.
Whatever, kids these days. Things will get better when school goes back in.

Those seem like reasonable callups. I figured we might see Burns and Girodo as well, guess not.

I was hoping to see Tellez, just because I think he could be a solid bat off the bench at times, and another option at 1st because I don't like Smoak, but like I said before I didn't expect them to put him on the 40 potentially risking a burnt option next year when they didn't have to do that yet.

Still holding out hope that maybe he gets the callup after the NH season though, but probably not

And I love seeing the casuals reactions to odd things like Travis down to Bluefield, it's just funny watching people freak out when they think management is making a huge mistake but it's just them not understanding what's going on

Was there anyone not 'getting it' ?

Probably a lot of people on twitter and facebook.

Man twitter brings out the worst of the worst
I follow sports on there mainly, but also some celebs like Ryan Reynolds. The crap people respond with to his posts........ it makes me ashamed of the human race :)

iowa city, iowa -- matt dermody received a call to the buffalo manager's office wednesday following the team's triple a game against scranton/wilkes-barre. Gary allenson had good news.

It was during that meeting that dermody, a 2013 university of iowa graduate and four-year hawkeye letterwinner, learned of his sept. 1 call-up to major league baseball's toronto blue jays.

"i am not a big jump-for-joy kind of guy," said dermody. "but i was like, 'cool, awesome, thank-you.'"

it was the culmination of a season-long journey where dermody made three stops in toronto's minor league system. He started the year in dunedin playing at advanced class a level, was promoted to double a new hampshire before joining the bisons in july.

dermody went 3-1 with a 1.82 era over the three stops. In 47 games, he tossed 54 1/3 innings, where he had 47 strikeouts.

"it has been quite the road," said dermody, a lefty relief pitching specialist. "i am grateful for everything that has happened."
