Trade Deadline 23/24

I don't really care if the Petes have four '07-1sts, and the wolves shouldn't either. It would just be interesting to see how that would work out.
Karabela excels in the face-off circle, takes a lot of important draws and plays a solid two way game. Buchinger is the best player of the four mentioned. I was surprised he was cut from the Team Canada roster. He's not flashy, but that's what you want in a defenseman. He'll be gone to the St. Louis system next season.
Buchinger would probably command a 1st on his own. But I would prefer McCoy and Melee for their playoff experience as the wolves have practically none; and, I think those two might be a bit better defensively.
Very different options - Guelph's 2 drafted vrs Peterborough's 2 undrafted players. Trade's impact on this year's run will be considerably different and much improved with 2 drafted players in my biased opinion.
Not sure how 4 07's to Peterborough is part of Sudbury's decision making.

It was stated previously by another poster. He doesn’t want to play in the memorial cup and then have a short turnaround for NHL camp. He doesn’t need to play in the Memorial cup and want to get ready for the NHL. Just have to wait and see I guess. If the Saginaw player returns to the team you will know the deal is dead.

If that’s actually true, it’s a MAJOR red flag about the character of Owen Beck.

What kind of player doesn’t want to play for a championship? It’s not like Beck has already won a Memorial Cup. If anything, you’d expect that he’d want another chance for redemption after losing in the semi finals last year.

Maybe winning isn’t all that important to Beck? That would help explain his pitiful ONE (1) point performance at the WJC and the spectacular failure of the Canadian team this year.

As for needing to finish his season early and “rest up” for training camp, that’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. What 20yr old hockey player needs extra “rest” in the summertime? That’s laughable.

What would happen if Montreal goes on another run to the Cup finals again - - would Beck want to sit out so that he could “rest up” for training camp?

Some of the narratives that get spun here are mind boggling.

A lot of the narratives are a load of BS being thrown out by people looking for their 15 minutes of fame. Beck is a 19 year old kid. Don't think he ever thought he would be on the HF Boards version of Entertainment Tonight. A lot of people could be eating crow pies if this all turns out to be a nothing burger.

I second that. I find it VERY hard to believe he’d take a hard stance and stay in Peterborough.

When the players make that decision to play OHL hockey instead of USHL/NCAA, they understand what they sign up for. They know the cycle of Junior hockey. The elite players especially understand the program. They also understand they benefit from it.

This is likely a situation where Beck is taking his time. The deadline isn’t until Wednesday. He wasn’t in a situation to even have to consider anything until Saturday but the Tournament ended early for Canada.

I imagine he is reflecting on potential opportunities and is going to try to make the decision that seems best for him. Saginaw is a great option but maybe he would feel better or more comfortable on a different contender. Who knows.

But, at the end of the day, I CANNOT see this as a situation where we wants to finish the year early in Peterborough unless he is injured. There is no indication of injury so….

Has anyone heard of any trade rumors about the knights?
Ya they are done. 98% sold out arena till end of year already add 2 rounds off playoffs. Moore and Nazar reporting next year so they need no more bodies and still make a ton of money this year... LOL

The knights are in the favourable position of not needing to do anything. I believe they will wait teams out for a top 6 forward of which has been discussed there are lots of options Dubois and Hayes would be at the top of my list.

I had heard that Mark was kicking the tires on a player from Barrie, though as this is hearsay I will not mention names.

To add, maybe he’s more inclined to go somewhere where he knows once they’re eliminated he can continue his career elsewhere instead of sitting from the first/second week of April until May 24th. ( If Saginaw didn’t go far in playoffs that is )

If a player invokes a NTC, if that’s what is happening here, character has nothing to do with it.

I think the idea was that if he was doing it from the perspective of remaining in Peterborough for no competitive reason, it would be a character issue. In that situation, I agree. Where I disagree is that that is even happening. I highly doubt any player would do that.

This, and a couple of other things. If the above senario proved true, he would be in Saginaw for a month while the Spirit prep for the cup. That may not be intriguing to him.

Like it or not NCAA players are opting out of post season games, knowing that an injury could jepordize their career. Is that a possibility?

In the span of a year he has played in Missy, tourneys in Nova Scotia and British Columbia and back to Peterborough.

If it were me, it all comes down what is best for me. Let him decide, it's his future.

It is a team sport. “What is best for me” shouldn’t be the primary focus for any player.

This whole mentality of I am here for myself and for no one else while playing a team sport serves absolutely no purpose for anyone.

With respect to the no trade clause, yes, you are correct. He has the right to choose. I agree 100%. But, that is typically only so you can have a say in where you go. It is understood that in junior hockey they go through cycles. If you are a graduating player on a bad team, you will likely get an opportunity to move to a competitive team. Embrace it. Yes, drive the bus you own for sure. But, dont be an ass about it. Be respectful to the team and league that has poured tons of time and effort helping you develop your game and helped prepare you for the next level.

I’ve said it in other posts, I would be utterly and completely shocked if Beck, or any other player in the same situation, decided that it would be best for himself to essentially shut it down for the rest of the OHL season. IF he chose to stay in Peterborough, that is like Dennis Rodman leaving the Bulls to go to Vegas for a vacation mid-season. He may as well just go home and chill until the end of the OHL season for the Petes and then do whatever after. Him staying in PEterborough serves absolutely no purpose to anyone including himself.

If he doesn’t want to go to Saginaw, that’s fine. But, he needs to choose which competitive team he does want to go to.

Looking like the OHL office stayed closed today. With all the rumoured deals done and only needing to be processed, you’d think at least a couple small deals would be posted but no. Leads me to believe it will be a busy morning on Monday!

Peterborough is close to home, Saginaw is not. Marcus Foligno, the consummate team player declined a trade to play for the coach that selected him for Canada WJC team to stay home.

"This whole mentality of I am here for myself and for no one else while playing a team sport serves absolutely no purpose for anyone... OMG"

Like it or not OMG, this is not our "70's".

Look I'm not trying to put the cart in front of the horse... just express a possibility.
