There are a few big names who are set to be UFAs on July 1st, including Joe Thornton, Brent Burns, and Ben Bishop, and with the expansion draft coming up things may get a bit weird.

So what are some of your early predictions for Trade Deadline 2017?

at this time last year, oilers fans were asking the price on jagr because he would be great for a playoff push and would be able to teach the young guys. What is my point you ask? This thread is 3 months pre-mature

Sometimes it's fun to speculate and predict things :)

I call BS. At this point last year, Oilers were 2-4-0 with a -4 goal differential. They didn't win their 5th game until the 16th(?) game.

The only people asking for Jagr would be Leaf/Habs fans pretending to be Oiler fans.

The only team I feel is 100% out are the Yotes... they are baaaaad. So Hanzal and Vrbata are available I suspect.

There will be speculation around Ben Bishop leading up to the trade deadline. Steve Yzerman will, at most, comment that any trade made by the Lightning organization has to make their team stronger for the playoffs. The trade deadline will pass without a Bishop trade--no team having offered enough to offset the security such a backup provides.

Outside possibility that Nikita Nesterov is dealt with a pick for a couple of strong depth players on expiring contracts (1F, 1D).

Iginla?

Edit: Somebody was suggesting taking little for him today

Yeah, Avs will gladly trade Iginla at the deadline, 50% retained for a 2nd, no retention for a 4th. Feel free to swap in a prospect around that range if you'd rather keep the pick.

This, except that Bishop will still be the starter.

I could also see Filppula potentially being dealt, but if it happens it'll happen well before the deadline. If we get to the TDL and Flip's still on the team and playing the way he has to start the season Yzerman will keep him for the playoffs and worry about moving him in the summer.

My guess is the Flames move:

Kris Versteeg
Dennis Wideman
Deryk Engelland

Shattenkirk seems like a good candidate, but I'm not sure I see a scenario where the Blues would prefer a rental type package vs just keeping him for a playoff run.

If he were available, I'd offer our 1st + Davidson + Jones. Not sure it would be enough, but Davidson is a solid #4/5 who could soften the blow of losing Shatty.

teams like the blues add rentals like shattenkirk. no playoff bound team fighting for a cup ever trades a core ufa guy for picks/prospects... ever never and wont happen in future either

boom roasted

Anyways, if the Flames are out, I'd imagine Versteeg and Engelland find a new home. Possibly Wideman depending on how this season goes for him. Hell, maybe even Elliott or Johnson?

Shattenkirk will be dealt to either Boston or the Rangers, Neither Joe Thornton or Burns will be dealt Burns will resign with San Jose.

Nothing under Gorton gives indication the Rangers intend to deal for a rental, especially such a costly one.

Agreed the only way Shattenkirk is a Ranger is as a UFA next summer, Would tend to think that any team that trades for Shattenkirk at the TDL would want an extension agreed upon to deal any decent pieces to Army.

I can't imagine any team would successfully lobby for the rights to negotiate with Shattenkirk and then get him to play ball on such a major decision mid-season when he simply has the option to wait for where he wants to go in a few months time. With the rare exception that the team trading for him tells him they will give him some ludicrous contract that he would not turn down. For all intents and purposes Shattenkirk is a rental.
