GDT: Trade and Free agent Rumours thread | Chayka off-season edition

Not to mention they just got 9th overall 5-6 hours ago and struck out on flipping it. Have to think they are scrambling for a back up plan.
Yeah, Bucci makes it sound like that 9OA was being dangled for Byram too and Chicago beat them to the punch lol.

Weird times, but if theyre desperate they might do something stupid

LOL point taken, although those Habs teams were a freak of nature. We'll never be a bully team, but in the playoffs when hits get harder and we're throwing Robertson, Macelli and willie in the corners banging they'll get worn down. We do need bigger bodies that can skate and play. I really see Knies as a Tom Wilson light... will never be that fighter but big and strong with good hands and capable of 30 is a very hard thing to find, and exactly the kinds of guys you need in the playoffs.

Yeah, take out Robertson and Macelli and put in Koblar and Holinka. ;)

Maybe Will Belle shows something as a 19 year old this year at Notre Dame.

Announce the Knies+Rielly to SJ for 2nd+9th+27th cowards 😅😅

to those who don't like the Chicago trade it's seems very obvious to me that Chicago scouts feel the players available @ 4 wont be as good as Byram, obviously Buffalo feels different or this was the best offer they recieved and didnt think they could get more elsewhere. I've said this a few times that I don't believe this group of prospects are particularly strong at top of the draft compared to other years and we've now seen 3 top 10 picks moved 4-5 days prior to the draft don't remember the last time that happened. this might be due to a particular weak UFA crop but this is a clear message top 10 picks are getting moved for guys like Byram, Eklund and Tkachuk. not exactly superstar players.

I think the trade shows they've been brutally bad for so long they don't have time for a pick this year to contribute to turning around the season THIS YEAR.

They can't continue to kill Bedard's career.

if this pick was moved for a franchise player I would agree but 2 other playoff teams traded top 10 picks as well for complementary pieces.

How many franchise players are drafted any year?

I mean like Celebrini, or Matthews, or MacKinnon franchise level?

These are the last 1st. overall and they aren't all franchise level:

Here are the last 24 first overall picks in the NHL Draft, ranging from 2026 back to 2002.

I don't expect McKenna to be franchise level, but I expect a 1st. liner.

Chicago wishes to retain Bedard for the long haul; Florida views itself as a playoff team again after going from consecutive Cups/three consecutive SCF appearances to a playoff miss; Ottawa seeks to immediately replace the void left by its captain who departed a playoff team for a divisional rival. Whatever future value can be derived from these picks lacks much meaning to three teams which have a focus on the here and now. Might also be that some teams aren't as overly enamoured with the draft though, sure.
