What to expect from every NHL team at the 2022 trade deadline - Sportsnet.ca

TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS

Status:
Buyer

Deadline Cap Space: $3,719,166

2022 Draft Picks: TOR 1, TOR 2, TOR 7

Team needs: Fourth line forward, top-four defenceman, goalie

Potentially available: Travis Dermott, Nick Robertson, Justin Holl, Timothy Liljegren, Petr Mrazek

From 32 Thoughts, The Podcast: "I think (Dubas) goes for a D. I'm not convinced he's going for a goalie. I don't think he wants to trade his first-rounder."

Outlook: GM Kyle Dubas has stated his focus is to add to the blue line and it's clear they need more experienced defenders back there. But there's also a need for a faster fourth line forward or two
and, though Erik Kallgren calmed the goalie waters for a few days, a 6-3 loss to Nashville on 34 shots against Saturday may stir that debate up again. The Leafs also, reportedly, aren't crazy about moving their first, or top prospects Matthew Knies or Topi Niemela. At least for a rental. It seems Toronto has a lot of needs and the buyers around them have increased the urgency to do something.

Kind of why I figured a Mrazek+Dermott for Pysyk deal would work. They need some kind of goalie for next year, have a lot of cap space, and Dermott would be a younger upgrade.

Mrazek passing through waivers would make him more valuable to them this year too.

I truly believe Dubas is gonna stick to Jack Cambell and Kalgren. And this new guy Sateri i guess. I dont see us trading for a goalie. Could be wrong
Waiving him today means he'll know if he'll have to make a trade by 12 PM tmrw. Other contenders are less likely to take a punt on him so close to the roster freeze. Rebuilding teams curious about him might

We will be very active today/tomorrow. Just need to see if we make small tweaks or big moves. I'll say it again but Dubas has the pieces to do something significant if he wants

I have to imagine the Leafs may think/know someone will grab Mrazek,

Easy to just grab the cap space this year and next if he's claimed.

Clifford too

I deadass think Clifford played these last few games as a showcase type of thing. To see if he can garner enough value to be included in deals or get a pick back for. Idk.

I was surprised when Clifford played for Simmonds. I think Wayne Simmonds will go back to being the primary 4th line tough guy for us moving forward

I hope Kerfoot is invovled in any big deal. Just don't make any sense having him play in the 4th line. He's too soft and small to be a 4th line player on a playoff team. And he's also too good to be in the 4th line.

Either he's in the top 9 or he isn't. If Engvall and Mikheyev are off the table...than Kerfoot needs to be gone

Okay guys start watching now. Now Mirtle is saying Leafs are up to something big.
