Trade and Free Agency - 2024-25

I can see that happeneing.

GMBG interview where he sells the trade as:
-Rossi for Jiricek (they gave up a lot of picks for him).
-Add in some spin about getting to use Rossi as a rental with out paying TDL prices.
-It ends up as basically a hockey trade, a 3 team trade, or whatever in his mind.
And it allowed him to utilize more free agent dollars.

I forgot about that point. But I could see GMGB doing an interview like this. With the same tone as the Fiala "3 good months" or Talbot status after his wife went off on twitter (IIRC).

And he'll be drunk during it too, like the draft

I could see NYI moving Barzal for Rossi. Partly because Barzal and NYI are tired of one another, partly to save Cap space for them. Barzal had an awful year, and is no longer a Center. While he is impressive to look at, his production is mediocre for a guy who makes over 9M. Has only scored over 20 goals twice in his career, and Marco has scored more goals in a season he ever has. Throw in Barzal's lack of physicality, terrible FO% ... i think it's a bad trade for us.

At least he's a RHS?

Looks like he'll fit right in with the rest of the yearly IR trip players on the Wild. A career 70p/yr pace player, but he can't stay healthy. He wouldn't be a bad playmaker wing to pair with Boldy or Kap, but too expensive of a cap hit.

Yup, RHS, vg skater, and a good playmaker. Not exactly a "Guerin" player, though. Zero physicality, defense is mediocre, doesn't play C (IMO we need a C coming back for Rossi if he is traded).

I don't think a center as part of the return is a requirement. It's more of a want. I think GMBG plans on signing a UFA center instead of trading for one.

I think GMBG has to go after skill (with average size) this offseason. All he's done as GM for players is bring in bottom of the lineup guys.

That's a possibility too
If Rossi does have a really bad injury, Hynes deserves sharp criticism for playing him at all. Ek looks like a monster compared to the 1st half because he was able to heal everything in the time he was out. Rossi isn’t Kaprizov, playing at 60% isn’t good enough right now. Part of me is wondering if they are trying to expedite Yurov here so they can play him over Rossi. We don’t really have another guy at the moment who can play center and is at least somewhat trustworthy in playoff hockey.

All of this ties back to criticism around the medical staff too. A true circus we have going on here.

Serious question only semi-related to this topic. Does size matter more than the softness of the player?

Because If you watch Rossi from the first four months of the season, he played a more aggressive game, and was willing to go to the dirty areas more than Barzal ever has. So are we just looking for 6', 190lbs, or are we looking at how they play too?

Also a completely valid point.

I'm not sure Yurov is that either, in Hynes' eyes. Outside of the injury thing, I don't know why Hynes would be interested in playing Yurov above Rossi.

Yurov is definitely a better option than Shore/Boyd/Jones. Bankier is a little intriguing.

He is, but the only time any of Shore, Boyd or Jones are sniffing the playoffs is in my fantasy where we need Shore to play 4C because Hartman has to play top six wing. And yeah, I'd have Yurov over Shore, but officially Yurov isn't even under contract yet and we only have two games left after this one. And I'm pretty sure he needs a contract before he can even start the visa process.

It’ll be three.

It's the old Coyle or Granny question. Coyle was afraid to go to the dirty areas, and Granny bounced off of many a bigger player.

Dewar played bigger than his size, he completely changed his game to be that way though. But he was no comparison to Duhaime or Sturm in how effective he was at it.

Koivu had size but played soft most of the time, where JEE has size and uses it.

Ideally I'd want a FL type of lineup/mindset.

We'll see if he can get a contract, a visa, and a couple practices in within a week I guess. Would definitely be fun.
I was trying to think of the most Minnesota sport thing that could happen in this scenario and I think the Trump admin accidentally deporting Yurov to El Salvador the night before his debut takes the cake 😂
