Trade and Free Agency - 2024-25

The team is just talent starved , so sick of watching grinders and role players get paraded as something they’re not because we have no alternative.

Really looking forward to seeing Buium

I think there is a solid possibility Zeev has a bigger impact offensively than any FA, Yurov, Ohgren etc
Maybe, but he is very young. He will be coming into the league in his D+2 year(maybe the end of his D+1). For comparison, Makar came into the league in his D+3 year, Faber his D+4(a few games in his D+3).

It's asking a lot to expect him to shine right off the bat, at an earlier age than his equally talented(if not more, in Makar's case) peers.

We need to be patient with Zeev.

We need to be patient, but his pre-NHL resume is atypical. Makar’s sophomore year - Buium did it twice. He won WJC back to back, playing a pivotal role both times. He can play on his offside and has demonstrated the ability to play a shutdown role if needed.

There’s no reason to be cautious. He is getting the keys to PP1 right off the bat, that’s pretty much a lock. If he struggles 5v5, you can shelter him on the 3rd pair. There is a fine line between patience and paranoia. He’s earned the benefit of the doubt. Boldy, Faber, Rossi - none of them has the resume that Buium has entering the league. Even Hutson, the Hughes’, Makar weren’t as consistently dominant**

**before people jump all over me, I’m not saying he will be better than all these guys, just pointing out how rare his NCAA production is

Another thing that’s going to be a lock next year is having two skilled PP units. Very excited for that

Kap, Boldy, Ek, Zucc, Buium

Rossi, Yurov, $7M UFA, Ohgren/Hartman, Faber

His NCAA production is promising, and I think it's super cool to be happy and optimistic about it, but I think reserving a dark little corner in your mind for the possibility of his not succeeding right off the bat is prudent. With some of the stuff that gets said about this kid, I find myself wondering how people will react if he has a good season for a rookie, but not a good season for an NHLer. As long as people realize that's still a positive outcome and don't attack Buium, himself, if he falls short of inflated expectations, I don't see anything wrong with celebrating how good he's been already and might be in the future.

Who cares how people react? Nobody is saying he’s a guaranteed star. But if you can’t determine for yourself how rare his pre-NHL resume is, I don’t know what to tell you. There is a contingent on this board who fall back on the “oh let’s just pump the brakes” in condescending fashion as if the rest of us are sniveling homers.

What you are saying is that you think he will be better than Makar, as he is coming into the league a year sooner. Makar is a generational, Norris winning Dman.

Never said that, never inferred it. Even added an asterisk for precisely this reason.

Quinn Hughes had 53 in 68 at 20 years old. Luke Hughes had 47 in 82 at 20 years old. Hutson is doing what he's doing at 20 years old.

Buium will turn 20 relatively early in his (assumed) rookie season. It's not that far outside of possible that he comes in and does something similar. It also doesn't mean that if he doesn't, he's done for. Maybe Buium trades production for overall play. Maybe Hynes doesn't put him on PP1 right away for some reason. Lots of things can go into his rookie season production/play.

Also it depends on who Buium is partnered with and who is his forwards. I think Hutson sees time with Suzuki, Caufield and Laine so his production is going to be high

Russo expects the Wild to go after Tim Washe once WMU’s season is over.

The Trenin-Washe-Brazeua fourth line of all sub replacement level players is going to feed families next year

As a NHL lock or an AHL player with callup potential for next year? Seems like a solid move if it's the later option.

Now I'm just in hoping mode that Kaprizov doesn't require $17 or $18 million.
Even if he does, you gotta pay him and do the cutting elsewhere. We've been overpaying grinders the past couple of years, it's time to change that and (over)pay for talented guys instead.

Now you’re coming around lol… I think it will be around 15
I'm not coming around to being comfortable paying it. I'm coming around to his agent licking his chops seeing the offense over the last 2 months vs. the 1st game with Kaprizov back.

I'm thinking $15M too. Guerin has some cover if that offer isn't accepted, considering it's a full million north of the current highest paid.

Nobody is coming around to the idea of liking paying it, but yeah his agent is going to ask for the ovechkin percentage which would roughly equate to 17.5M per…

Honestly I’m trading him to the highest bidder this summer if they want that kind of money and won’t be reasonable. Will have a lot of value as a full season rental

That’s like 30-40% higher than any other salary in the NhL. Cap didn’t go up that much
