Trade and Free Agency - 2024-25

Fletcher says huh...
I think the main thing there was the expansion draft. Giving away a first rounder (Tuch) because he had painted himself into a corner with NMCs. It's humiliating to see your GM get worked over by a smarter guy. But it's never just one thing and I can't think of any of Fletch's bottom of roster moves that were as baffling as the Brazeau trade.

Prudential Center is only 14 miles from Madison Square Garden. You can easily still live in Manhattan

Wouldn't be surprised if there are Islanders living in the city as well. Older guys might be in the burbs but I'd imagine renting as a younger pro athlete in the NYC metro makes more sense.

I've lived in Manhattan. Driving 14 mi. there can take forever. I would bet that most

devils players live on the other side of the river in Hoboken, Jersey City, or the burbs.

Things have changed since i was there, but isn't the big Russian population on the other side of the city in Brooklyn? I would guess that Kap would want easy access to that.

Yeah, Brighton Beach is right by Coney Island in Brooklyn. I think a little extra time in the car (or helicopter) might be worth it to contend for a Cup

that's the thing, it's not a little bit of time. NYC traffic makes CHI traffic seem like nothing. these guys want to live near the rink they are playing in, practicing in, and the airport (Newark?) that they are flying out of.
Devils would be quite the team with Kap, on them, IF he, Hughes, and Hamilton can sty on the ice.

The guy we should’ve traded for was Kuzmenko. Way better than Nyquist and a RHS. He wasn’t going to cost much to acquire.

Congestion pricing has actually made traffic far better. Less than a half hour from MSG to Prudential Center or EWR at non-peak times. I get wanting to save money and time but maybe one's girlfriend / wife would prefer not living in Newark.

And I would hope Kaprizov wouldn't be choosing his free agency destination based on being closer to some Russian expats -- usually fat guys in speedos spread out on a park bench -- and a bowl of borscht. Even Minneapolis has some of that.

Ah, interesting. I had heard they were going to some sort of solution to the traffic problem. Singapore has limited permits for driving in the city, and makes them very expensive.

Back to the traffic, the key was "non peak times". Any big city turns into a completely different animal during rush hour, and the madness that is NYC roads and roadwork can make a half hour journey turn into something 3 times that.

Most of the Devils players live in Jersey.

Maybe I’m different, but living in a city like Manhattan sounds awful. I’d rather live outside the city and travel in than vice versa.
I’d love it. Especially on an NHL salary. The food is incredible. The views. But yeah, could definitely see why some people would prefer not to

I hate that we are trying to handle the logistics for Kaprizov’s seemingly inevitable departure to NYC 🤦‍♂️

Definitely love the views, especially from the top of the World Trade Center and Empire State Building. I’m a tall building person while being terrified of heights lol. I’ve got some really cool pictures of the WTC. Food is great, but also overpriced. Both of those things I can get while still living outside the city. It’s the amount of people and noise at night that would drive me insane.

Kaprizov doesn’t seem like a big city person. If I recall his social media showed him more as an outdoorsy kind of person. I think the Florida teams are more of a threat than New York.

I agree with you, now we just need to tell him Florida gets suffocatingly humid and has gators.

I don't know who's going to have the money, and I know he wants to win, but I could really see Chicago being a place he goes if they can convince him they have a plan after the next couple seasons. Maybe even Columbus.

Kap going to CHI seems like an irrational, little brother fear from MN fans. Kap would just be going from a bad to a worse team. They're stuck in the AZ/BUF death spiral of being a habitually bad team.

The only Divisional team I could see Kap going to is Dallas. They are built to be good for the long-term and as a bonus are a tax free state.
