I think if we get Jiricek it will be Heidt or Ohgren as the main piece. Hopefully the former. Then one of the Iowa D and a pick

Heidt + Hunt + 2nd
Ohgren + Spacek + 3rd
Yeah, I think people should look at it like if Yurov or Buium were in the same spot and what they would want in return. There needs to be at least one prospect that gets the value most of the way there. Starting with Stramel or Chisholm is likely not going to cut it for Columbus. If it does, you take that and run.

I would entertain Heidt, Hunt and 1st.

I like Hunt but even without Jiricek on the roster, he feels a bit expendable. And you should sweeten deals that get you a promising young RHD.

Heidt can also be the young scoring winger, so far Ohgren hasn't inspired much confidence
Hard to differentiate between the two. Ohgren has been invisible in the NHL except when he is fumbling the puck, v Heidt, who has been a consistently excellent producer in the WHL(now 3rd in P/PG, 5th last year).

Ohgren can and should be doing better, but is by no means a bust. Heidt is doing about as well as can be expected, given his situation. :dunno:

Crazy overpay, for me. Hunt is ready to play in the NHL right now(unlike Jiricek). Heidt has been really , really good in his 3 seasons in the WHL. Hard to expect better, really. I hope that we are past the days of trading away picks on "maybes".

Jiricek has skating, IQ, and attitude red flags. CBJ has deemed him not fit to play for their talent poor NHL squad so far this year. On top of that, CBJ unnecessarily burned a year of his contract, meaning we will have to deal his PITA agent, Walsh a year earlier than we should've. Right now, he will be a RFA in 26-7, and we will be trying to determine his value after only one season of play in the NHL(25-26), if we are lucky. I'd just as soon take my chances on Hunt, Ohgren/Heidt, and a 1st. It's a major red flag to me that CBJ is already willing to move on from Jiricek, and he should be valued accordingly.

Ohgren/Heidt and a 2nd...maybe. So far, Jiricek is far from a sure thing to be even a top 4 D. I think of him as the anti-Rossi in terms of IQ and attitude.

I see Ohgren as a clear step above and really hope the FO does as well. Heidt’s impressive junior #s Obscure the fact that he was passed over by every GM in the league in the draft, some two or three times, and by Team Canada for WJC. Meanwhile Ohgren was his team’s WJC captain and has proven production in a pair of men’s leagues

I disagree, slight overpay yes but you have to in order to 1) trading for a young RHD and 2) outbid other teams, so trading equal or bargain value won't cut it.

To start off, I see Hunt as a sort of illusion pick. I really like him but on his own, he holds little trade value. Even without talking trade, I see him as a potential bottom pairing guy for us but with Chisholm and Buium incoming, its very likely he'll simply look for another team. If we are talking trade, there is going to be very little interest in him as a solo piece - an average sized jack all trades, master of none dmen who's played only a handful of limited NHL games. But he's an illusion he's still a decent player and could help sweeten a package deal.

So the question is, is Heidt + 1st an overpay? Worthy discussion. But I am the stance it is not too much overpay for Jiricek.

You all know I love my draft but I'm quite confident that the 2025 is very weak past 15 and we are picking about #25. So that leaves Heidt has the highlighted piece, a great prospect for sure, but we need to give up something of value for Jiricek and I don't mind giving up Heidt when we have Yurov/Khusnutdinov/Bankier/Kumpulainen/Stramel/Haight as center prospects already incoming

I don't see Jiricek as a sure thing but closer to values teams got for Cutter Gauthier or Rutger McGroarty. And I do think Yager; Drysdale > Heidt + 2025 25th overall.

Perhaps Jiricek has some flags and that may drive down his trade value but I'm confident he'll develop well under us. Walsh is a non-factor for me, you got to deal with a-hole agents all the time, and I don't necessarily seeing CBJ wanting to move him alone as a red flag. I just see the need to read too deep into it.

Would rather give up Ohgren, as the only traits I think he beats Heidt in are size and shot. Centers can move to the wing, like I imagine Heidt will do, but Ohgren will never be able to play center. Heidt may not have the floor Ohgren does, but we don't have any issue finding bottom six players. I'd rather have the ceiling Heidt has.

I’d normally agree but it’s possible ohgren ends up in the same sort of mold as Ryan Hartman and that is the type of 3rd liner that wins championships as far as I am concerned. The ability to grind and check and do the dirty stuff but then fill in admirably in the top 6 when needed. I think that could be there for ohgren. He has the shot and the size

I don't think he has the guts or the spirit that makes Hartman, Hartman. Remember that's what we wanted from Greenway, but you can't teach that.

A bit early to pass judgement on Öhgren. He has only played 12 NHL games so far, and has at least scored a goal. I see he has 5 goals in 6 AHL games this year.
Cut him some slack, will you.

Between Heidt/Ohgren I think the front office gonna choose Ohgren to keep. They for sure value size over anything so they gonna try to keep Ohgren.

IMO Ohgren is a step ahead in his developement and has the higher floor. He's already playing pro's and he is doing fine in the AHL atm. Heidt is still a full wild card, there are so many prospects out there who dominate juniors but can't translate their game against men.

I agree that Heidt might have the higher ceiling and is probably the more skilled player. I'd always choose skill over size especially when the team lacks true top6 talent but hey, this is just me.

With all that said, both could become serviceable top 6 players in the NHL someday.

Personally I learnt my lesson when I was REALY high on Nic Petan. I was in love with the player and thought he was much better than his teammate Oliver Bjorkstrand. Despite his size, I thought he was so slippery and knew how to create separation. But sometimes size does matter, or a balance of size/skill - like Boldy.

I think Heidt's doing great in his development, don't get me wrong, but I do take small pauses when I was lukewarm with his camp and he is never in discussion for the Canada WJC team despite his points.

I am very happy to have both prospects, but I do drool over the though of having Yurov/Ohgren/Wallstedt/Jiricek/Buium as the next core coming in after Boldy/Rossi. That's one big, skilled, young team.

Another reference to Jiricek in the latest Russo article. Specifically mentions a „prospect trade“ and no roster player being part of the package. I wonder how that would work…

No it’s the three takeaways from today’s game.
„The Wild continue to pursue Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman David Jiricek, but Rossi wouldn’t be included in the package if the deal gets completed, according to a source briefed on the negotiations. If the trade does get done, it’ll likely center around a prospect because the Wild don’t want to do anything that would weaken their NHL roster.“

Okay yeah, I think it would likely be around Ohgren or Heidt and then we add either another prospect or pick. Would be pretty disappointing to trade any of Yurov, Buium or Wallstedt for him.

I seem to remember people making judgements really early in Tuch; would never make it in the NHL, was invisible, etc.

He seemed to have carved out a pretty good career so far.

Stream of consciousness so sorry in advance…

Of the opinion that Heidt is going to need to show something against pros before I get too enamored with what he’s doing in Junior. As has been said, long record of high scoring junior players with his frame and similar game that couldn’t cut it at the NHL level. Much prefer your prospect to be lighting up a league but there is enough missing for me to play wait and see. I have trouble seeing where he ever fits in a top 6 on this team if they are trying to be competitive.

Ohgren is a no doubt NHLer in my view. Just depends how high he can elevate. I feel comfortable in saying I think he’s a ~ 20 goal/year guy with ability to be a winger version of JEE. Probably someone who is going to take a few years playing in the NHL to find his fit before it all clicks.

Hunt to me is on a Soucy type trajectory. Someone that is nice to have, great bottom pair, fine on a middle pair type player. Main issue is it’s hard to see his future here when you are looking at Middleton/Brodin/Buium all down the left side really as soon as this year. He’s traded in the next year, just depends for what.

Chisholm is at the point where he’s a solid player but also hard to see his future here as well.

If a Jiricek trade were to go down, next year you are looking at the above all down the left side and Faber/Spurgeon/Jiricek down the right in some pairing. Things start to look interesting.

I’d have the Wild prospects as Buium, Yurov, Wallstedt, Ohgren, Heidt, Hunt. If you can get Jiricek for anything at or under Ohgren even up or a minimal add, no brainer. Adding a first round pick to any of those I don’t think I’d be interested. A first round pick plus any prospect not listed there, sign me up.

Jiricek has two things I’d still be very leery about. He is not a good skater by all indications and on this type of defensive unit that will be very apparent. Much of why he will be potentially moved is due to lack of NHL playing time. He’s certainly not stepping into this organization and going to get it unless they cater to him. And unless/until some of the other roster and minor players clear out, he would need to show a big positive impact to stay in the NHL with how this organization is currently constructed.
