I respect the hard decision made. There’s only so many spots to be had and money to go around, especially if they are looking to add an established top 6 scoring threat and (hopefully) a big RHD for the long term.If push came to shove Yurov.

To be clear, I am 100% on board with keeping both.I don't think you have to worry too much about Yurov taking too much money, the roster is going to look pretty different and the cap might be 110M by the time his ELC is over. Plus, if you're looking for a big RHD, you can aim a lot lower than a guy like Jiricek, who would be a bit of an overkill for the 2nd pair RD.
And there's plenty of room for both Yurov and Rossi in the top six long term.
Guerin should have taken a “gamble”, like he has on Boldy/Faber, and extended Rossi long-term in the offseason. Would be very interested to know what they could’ve locked him up at on a 6 or 7 year deal. Would $5-$6M have been possible? To be clear, I am 100% on board with keeping both.
My expectation is that Boeser or someone similar will be signing with the Wild this summer. I'm not worried about Yurov making too much money at this point. We can talk about that in 3ish years. I'm definitely worried that Rossi will end up overpaid because he will have career high point totals next to Kaprizov. 7 x $7-9M makes me nervous and is definitely not ideal if the Wild view him as a 3C behind Ek/Yurov in the near future. A bridge deal is imperative for everyone's sanity. We get to keep Rossi and see how Yurov does before anointing him as anything.
Also, we shouldn't aim lower than Jiricek for the 2nd pair RD. We can certainly settle for less or a different skillset, but never aim low. Big RHD with offensive spark are unicorns. Scoop them up when you can.
Cap situation put them in a spot. I'm fine with the way they are dealing with Rossi contract wise.Guerin should have taken a “gamble”, like he has on Boldy/Faber, and extended Rossi long-term in the offseason. Just seemed like such an obvious move compared to signing Trenin. Such a stupid and unnecessary waste of cap for what should be filled by an ELC.
What if he did, Rossi said no, and that’s the reason for his name coming up in trade rumors? That at least would make some semblance of sense regarding the whole situation. We never truly know what happens behind closed doors.Guerin should have taken a “gamble”, like he has on Boldy/Faber, and extended Rossi long-term in the offseason. This would actually make sense. Fiala wasn't considered expendable until he played hardball in contract negotiations, and now Rossi is being treated the same way. The major potential hole in it is that Russo usually reports pretty clearly on things like that, but this time he's said he doesn't understand why it's happening exactly. What if he did, Rossi said no, and that’s the reason for his name coming up in trade rumors? Is Jiricek available? I haven’t been a huge fan of his game in my NHL viewings but he’s still a 6’4 RHS with tons of offensive ability. I don’t know where he would fit in long term. Probably 2RD, but I don’t really want to trade Rossi or Yurov for a future second pair D.If Guerin is trying to trade for Jiricek and CBJ says one of Rossi/Yurov is required, and Guerin decides that he will be pulling the trigger, would you rather he trade Rossi or Yurov for him?
"Without Kaprizov on his line" seems a little too general. Are talking about playing with Boldy and Hartman? Johansson and Hartman?Regarding Rossi- I think he’s playing admirably this year but don’t think he’s really driving play all too much. I think they’re going to try and pump up his number as much as possible and get rid of him before they have to give him a deal. Realistically, he’s probably a 40ish point player without Kaprizov on his line. Not a bad player by any means and I think there’s more there yet, but I don’t blame them for not wanting to commit to him.
I’m saying pretty much every combination that doesn’t include Kaprizov and he’s not producing at nearly the same rate. I’m not going to speculate on how Point would do with Johansson and Hartman, but he’s been over a point per game playing without Kucherov at ES."Without Kaprizov on his line" seems a little too general. Is Brayden Point an 80 point player playing with Johansson and Hartman?
I am 100% out. YuckThere are some rumors on X about a possible Wild-Islanders trade, Brock Nelson and a 2nd for Rossi.
Nelson...33, 6'4 212, C, shoots L, cap hit $6M, born MN. 7 goals, 3 assists in 20 games this season.
What do you think? Interesting when it comes to the 1C spot.
Pretty terrible if you're gaining 10 years on a player. There are some rumors on X about a possible Wild-Islanders trade, Brock Nelson and a 2nd for Rossi.

Yeah, but Guerin could be looking for a short term fix up there.Pretty terrible if you're gaining 10 years on a player.
He's also inventing something to fix.Yeah, but Guerin could be looking for a short term fix up there.

Wasn’t there a history of Fiala and contract negotiation problems, not just a one time thing? Both the 2x$3M and the following negotiation going to arbitration if I remember correctly. This would actually make sense. Then again Kaprizov has played hardball every time, and he's never been treated like this.
Then again, he's Kaprizov. They need him.
Unless they win a Stanley Cup.Trading a young player like Rossi for an aging Nelson would be insane, and grounds for firing.
CBJ fans whose opinion I respect say that his progress has been slow, and he seems to be entitled. That might have been because of the way the last regime dealt with him...dunno. As of now, he needs a lot of improvement both on his game, and his attitude. Is Jiricek available? Just because the player doesn’t sign for what the GM wants doesn’t mean that the player is the problem. Need all the details to know.Wasn’t there a history of Fiala and contract negotiation problems, not just a one time thing? Both the 2x$3M and the following negotiation going to arbitration if I remember correctly.
I believe Russo was clueless on a couple of the Zucc/Hartman/Foligno contracts when they happened as well. Might be misremembering though.
Kaprizov is a whole different beast. You throw everything you’ve got in order to keep him around. The fanbase will make sure Guerin gets fired if Kaprizov does not extend.
