Better than losing and dropping out of the race.

It's cutthroat.

We can get a bit lucky if the Wild start falling out of favor.

Would be tough to ask. Of all the contenders, the Wild probably have the easiest road. Calgary and Edmonton twice and a game against the Avs to close out the season.

Nothing is impossible, I guess.

A 5-team race for 7th-8th is certainly more interesting than a 4-team race for 8th

EDIT didn't wanna double post

Teams that have a possible points number between 57-61:

- Columbus (57)
- Phoenix (57)
- Detroit (59)
- Dallas (59)*
- Minnesota (61)*

Minnesota and Dallas control their playoff destiny; the other three do not.

Excellent way to picture reality Mayor Bee.... the five are fighting for two spots correct?

The only good thing is that not every team is going to win them all except for the Jackets (lol), at this point it's not those that win to count, it's those that lose.

Yes.

The huge games among them are:
Apr. 22 - Phoenix @ Detroit
Apr. 25 - CBJ @ Dallas
Apr. 27 - Detroit @ Dallas

Yes, I was thinking yesterday about the potential permutations of results when the five teams you mentioned play each other.... (prior to the CBJ win tonight).

I gave up but you are touching on it.

Dallas has a tough next 4 that I think will determine what they do. Chicago, Vancouver, St. Louis and LA.

How they play in those 4 games will determine if they stay in this race or not. If they take 3 out of those 4, I'm feeling 8th place will be theirs. That seems to be the hardest stretch of games for any of the contending teams left.

If they can take 6 or 7 points in those 4 games perhaps they deserve the 8th seed...

Let's face it, only the best should make the playoffs and the best don't lose games that count... It's not so much about winning, it's about NOT losing.

That said, I really like our chances with Bobs in net, many less than deserving teams with great goaltending have not only made the playoffs but won rounds too....

Bottomline, (imo) Bobs is the best thing in Columbus since Nash was drafted #1 by Doug MacLean....

Note to CBJ fans, Bobrovsky's face mask says BOBS.... not Bob.

In the "If if's and but's were candy and nuts" department...

It seems to me the CBJ might have had 2 points taken away that they should have had.

The Jan 26 game against the Blackhawks where a goal was taken away when Foligno was wrongly called for goaltender interference on a Brassard goal. Then the Oilers win with the Calvert "distinct kicking motion." The Oilers went on to win by 2 goals, but the 6th goal was an empty netter.

Spilt milk, but those 2 pts might have made a difference.

Maybe he meant it as a possessive but forgot the apostrophe? Like "Bob's mask". English is his second language, after all . :sarcasm:

Richards always refers to him as Bobby in interviews. Same with the other guys on the team at the STH event last week. They called him Bobby or Bob.

Whatever, I guess. :dunno:

Pre trade deadline conversation (Dallas)

Dallas President: I want to make the playoffs Joe!
Dallas GM (Joe N): How do we do that! Our team sucks!
Dallas President: (shakes head) You're the GM! Think of something!
Dallas GM: I've got an idea that might work!
Dallas President: I'm all ears!
Dallas GM: How about we trade our top players for futures?
Dallas President: Why the hell would we do that?
Dallas GM: I have no idea, it makes no sense but I think it might work!
Dallas President: All right I'm on board, time to gut our team to make a playoff run!

These freaking interlopers need to LOSE!

I'm holding out hope that they'll pull an Edmonton - win like 5 in a row, enough to be annoying, then lose their next 5 and plummet. They're obviously playing over their heads and can Richard Bachman continue to be a King amongst men?

So long as the Stars lose to us.

Unfortunately, because the Stars have a game in hand and the tie-breaker, they can remain ahead of us if they lose to us and win all their other games, even if we win all our games.

Obviously just guessing for fun, who knows.

I think Minnesota and St Louis are in. I don't see Dallas getting past these next 5 games with anything but a point or two. I don't see them making it. To me the strong favorite for the 8 spot is Detroit. Their schedule:

@ Nashville
@ Calgary
@ Vancouver
Phoenix
LA (night after Phoenix)
Nashville
@ Dallas

Easier than what Dallas faces no? Every team Dallas plays is either in a playoff spot or in the hunt, Detroit plays a plummeting, sloppy Nashville twice and Calgary.

I'm not thinking Dallas' schedule is enviable by any means, but at this time of the year games against top teams are not usually the toughest. Some might even be resting their key players.

Just think...this playoff picture would look quite a bit different if the Foligno goal against Chicago and the Calvert goal against Edmonton had actually stood.
