Not going to call anyone a bust so far in a tourney were some kids haven’t played a competitive game of hockey in 10 months. Some are just starting to get there hand/eye, legs and lungs going.

shouldn't this thread be split into two threads for last year and this year? i got confused there.
Me too

Tomasino as far as Predators prospects is the only standout the rest are having a mediocre experience.
It’s hard to judge some of these games as the bottom teams are just horrible.
Also am I the only one annoyed by the piped in crowd noise when the score is 9-0? I get it’s to make the game seem more real on TV but no crowd is going that bananas for a 9th or 12th goal.

I've stopped watching all these blowout games after a 5 goal difference. Nothing to see there.

Small countries definitely close the gap with system play and now, without pre-games, the individual differencies are the main factor.

Disappointed for these blowout games.

Disappointments - Amirov, Podkolzin, Caufield (game 1 & 2 only), Byfield (looking good against Switzerland tho)

Standouts - Topi Niemela, Trevor Zegras, Tim Stutzle, Jamie Drysdale, Noel Gunler

How did Caufield disappoint in two games where he was one of the better players on the ice?

Because he was held pointless in an 11-0 game, and was pretty invincible. Played, an okay game against the Russians, but not what I know he can do. His last game, he showed a lot more what he can do.

He's a talented guy, I expect him to be dominant like Boldy and Zegras, and I'm still waiting to see that. His game against the Czechs was good though.

These tournaments are often taken out of context, especially early. The differences in teams are far too dramatic to draw much from it.

Its nice to see the players play on the grand stage but semi finals and finals are really the only best on best at this age group.

As a Sabres fan, I've been really happy about what we've seen from Cozens and Peterka so far. As a USA fan, Boldy's been impressive on a generally disappointing team (though, to be fair to these kids, many of them haven't played competitive hockey in months, while they're going toe to toe against European kids who got to do this in the middle of their regular season).

Caufield was far from a dissapointment on game 1,kid was legit the best player on the ice, didnt watch game 2 and game 3 was wtv he wasnt bad but not great neither

For Canada it’s pretty much the guys you’d expect. Cozens, Bryam, Drysdale. I guess the biggest surprise is Levi simply because I didn’t know who he was and thought Canada was going to have a problem in net.

Despite the score sheet, Caufield actually wasn't very good against the Czechs.

Since I haven’t watched games in group B, I evaluate only group A. From what I’ve seen so far, standouts would be Newhook, Cozens, Levi, Nemec, Niemela and Stutzle. On the other hand, I consider a bit dissapointing performances of Byfield, Peterka and Knazko.
Huh?

As a Wings fan, it's been great to see Niederbach, Soderblom, and Johansson perform well, so far.

Cozens has been great. Good kid too.

Reactions: Ginger Papa
Standouts - more like surprises: Levi, Tomassino,Faber, York

Disappoitments: Quinn(expecially that Sabres picked him over Rossi), Cole Caufield (needs to get to the dirty areas)

*Byram\Drysdale: Great tourney but offensivly so far not producing results

My standout are sens picks Stutzle and Sanderson. I think the sens have themselves a future Ryan Suter out there.

I used to be sceptic at Sanderson over Drysdale but turns out they knew what they were doing.

This is an interesting comment to me. I think Sanderson > Drysdale is a fair take, but I'm curious how you feel this tournament has enforced that opinion. I feel like Drysdale's had the stronger tournament so far.
