WJC: Tournament standouts and dissapointments so far? (2021)

This tournament clearly lacks talent.

only one superstar in the making - Stutzle
couple of good, reliable players - Zegras, Caufield, Askarov, Lundell, Cozens, Holtz, Podkilzin

most dissapointing is the primitive team Canada game play. With a roster full of first rounders you expect a bit more than run and gun.

USA is also not as smooth as usual while Russia is definitely not as talented as usual.

Are you making this grand pronouncement based on this one tournament, or on their entire body of work to date?

How can he be disappointing on a team like Austria? He was still their best player. If you give Lewis Hamilton a Fiat Uno, you also can't say he's disappointing when he finishes last.

not a valid comparison, he should have gotten at least one point in 4 games. His line-mates were never so terrible.

Disappointing. Canada’s absurdity awful group. Playing a no good at all German team also missing 33% of their players. Then three very boring blowouts that were never remotely in doubt.

trying to evaluate the Canadian team under circumstances such as these with zero pressure to lose or even be challenged.

No it doesn’t- he’s been a big beneficiary of playing with two of the best distributors in the tournament.

How is this the worst post of 2021? Do you see any future Hart winners out here? I don't think so.

Sometimes the WJC is flush with talent (2015/2016) come to mind. This one feels lackluster

Standouts - Cozens, Tomasino, Drysdale, Levi, Lambert, Stutzle, Slafkovsky (Has looked good as a 16yr old), Zegras, Podkolzin, Soderblom, Wraneschitz

Disappointments - Caufield, Askarov (still looks shaky), Holtz, Broberg, Soderstrom, Mysak (offensively, that's more of a product of the Czech stystem IMO)

Byfield still not living to the expectations imo!
Its still the same thing, dominant against lesser players and meh against tougher competition

Cole Perfetti is my disappointment .. His confidence looks like its taken a beating.

Byfield has done about what I expected.
Quinn less than expected

but my expectations for Perfetti , especially on the PP were pretty high so bigger disappointment for me.
