JJ Paterka has been awesome in my eyes. Solid contributor all around.
Also liked Podkolzin and Niemala
Amirov considering this is his first wjc and still 18. Lot of these guys have already played in WJC and experience under their belt

Disappointment
- Expected to see more out of Sanderson.
- Perfetti and Caufield

York was brutal vs the Russians, he's been very up and down. But I'm not sure if there have been many better D in this tournament, there haven't been any revelatory performances from D like we have had in some years.

I'll go

Stutzle - Zegras - Peterka
Faber - Heinola
Levi
They won't put two Germans on the all-star team so put Cozens in Peterka's spot. Heinola hasn't even been the best dman on Finland. Byram or Dysdale (whichever plays better down the stretch) have to be on there as well. You're right that it's been a bit of a down year for defensemen, but then again the make or break games are still to come so there is plenty of time for a couple of guys to really step up.

Players I had not previously seen much of:

-Brad Lambert incredibly impressive
-Elmer Soderblom is a gem
-Big fan of Michal Mrazik’s game as well

As far as disappointments, Rossi. Even with the roster around him, I expected him to create a bit more on his own. Caufield also seems to need more time to develop but the tools are there

Dissapointed in Roby Jarventie from Finland. It's not that he's not scoring or putting up points, he's actually playing bad hockey right now.

Finland hasn't been great this year but was still expecting more from Jarventie.

Better than expected :
Peterka , Stutzle , Elias , Soderblom , Niemela , Mysak , Zegras , Levi , Wraneschitz , Jiricek

Expected more from them :
Perfetti , Rossi , Raymond , Kaliev , Teply , Sanderson

This tournament clearly lacks talent.

only one superstar in the making - Stutzle
couple of good, reliable players - Zegras, Caufield, Askarov, Lundell, Cozens, Holtz, Podkilzin

most dissapointing is the primitive team Canada game play. With a roster full of first rounders you expect a bit more than run and gun.

USA is also not as smooth as usual while Russia is definitely not as talented as usual.

Of the undrafted players, Florian Elias is the points leader, and has looked good doing so. Martin Lang has put up some decent points. Of course, still being two years away from being drafted, Lambert has been mighty impressive at times, showing brilliance. I've also been impressed with Helenius and his game, he's looking like a high end 3C, low end 2C type potential guy, more likely 3C... but a valuable one to have.

Impressed based on my expectations going in: Stutzle, Zegras, Berniers, Elias, and Lambert.

Exceeding my expectations: Faber, Cozens, and Boldy.

Expected more: Turcotte, Rossi, Raymond Knight, Askarov, and Podkolzin.

Disappointing: No impact defenseman and Caufield.

I don't think the tournament lacks talent. I think a lot of the juniors are playing below their ability because they haven't had many games this season. I also think all of the teams are less effective because of the lack of pre-tournament games.

Canada losing Dach has made them more of a "primitive" team, which i think is exactly what they need to be. They have great speed, strength, shooting, and checking ability, and they should play to that. Their best forward, Cozens, is at his best when he plays simply. McMichael is capable of some nice playmaking, but is best when he just fires the puck. Holloway has a simple, straight line game. Byfield has been at his best when he is heavy on the forecheck, rather than being a playmaker. Perfetti's playmaking has been disappointing...maybe next year.

Fire the puck. Deflect the puck or stuff in rebounds. Win all puck battles either by getting there first, or being smarter and/or stronger than your opponent. When you lose the puck, be relentless until you get it back, then; Fire the puck. Deflect the puck or stuff in rebounds. Rinse and repeat.

Canada has been doing way better in recent years, but this year's team has been the best that I can recall as far as discipline is concerned, except for the Schneider hit. I am sure that older fans will remember when international tournaments were a never ending parade of Canadians going to the box.

Why are people mentioning Perfetti? He has 5 pts in 4 games. Asking as a keeper league owner. Thanks.

It’s January 2nd. Do we already have the worst post of 2021?

There were a couple of decent AUS players like Peeters and Harnisch, but the majority of the team were a tier or two below the average talent level in the tourney. They were just overwhelmed. Rossi had little chance to do much. I saw a couple of nice rushes that ended in a nice SOG, but he basically had to skate through the entire other team.

He wasn't great, but he certainly wasn't disappointing to anyone who had realistic expectations. If you put him on a team like the USA you'd be raving about him, i would think.

We'll see after they play the good teams.

Is Finland not one of the good teams?

Zegras has been the best standout for me.

Not sure Perfetti would be on the disappointment list if some of his linemates (eg Krebs) had some finish.
